Troy Alumni Association to celebrate 100-year-old building

The Troy Alumni Association has began Centennial Planning for Troy High School, according to a news release.

The Association has planned a community event from Oct. 6 through 8, with an open invitation for all those who have attended or worked at Troy High School. The theme is “Our School, Our Stories,” and will celebrate the 100-year-old building and its legacy.

Those interested are encouraged to save the date, update their contact information and join in on the planning efforts by contacting alumni@tasdf.org. Plans include bringing alumni businesses, entertainment groups and local community leaders to the event. There will also be historical displays and entertainment at Troy Vet’s Club and Troy Sale Barn, according to the release.

The full event schedule will be released soon.

The school originally absorbed several smaller schools in 1868 and soon grew rapidly in the area. Unfortunately in 1922 the original building was gutted by fire, the news release said. At the time, students were scattered throughout various community buildings attending classes while a new school was being constructed. The building was completed in 1923 and stands as a “registered historical site” in the same location today, the release said.
