Bucknell Symphonic Band hosts free concert

The Weis Center will hear the sounds of Frank Ticheli’s “Vesuvius,” percussion rhythms and brass fanfares of American Marches as Bucknell University’s Symphonic Band will present a free, public concert.

The concert will take place on Saturday, Nov. 11 at 7:30 p.m.

Under the direction of Professor William Kenny, music, the Symphonic Band comprises students from majors across campus. Performing at least twice per semester, programs are selected from some of the most challenging and rewarding music of the entire band repertoire. Recent programs have included music by such composers as Holst, Grainger, Reed, Copland, Shostakovich and Whitacre.

For this concert, the first part of the program will feature classics of the band repertoire, most notably, the composer Frank Ticheli’s “Vesuvius,” a musical depiction of the volcano’s cataclysmic eruption.

Falling on Veteran’s Day, the performance will conclude with a set dedicated to all veterans including arrangements of the Star Spangled Banner, “The Stars and Stripes Forever” and Robert W. Smith’s “American Flourish.”

Starting at $2.99/week.
