Jersey Shore Area High School November Students of the Month

Each month, Jersey Shore Area High School selects two seniors to honor as students of the month. Alexis Canellos, Business Professional Women’s Club student of the month, and Tate Sechrist, Lions Club student of the month, have been selected to be acknowledged for the month of November.

Alexis Canellos, daughter of Nicholas and Debra Canellos, is involved in various school activities that have set her apart. Since her sophomore year she has actively participated in Renaissance club and Constitutional Convention. She is also a valued member of the National Honor Society and National English Honor Society, demonstrating her commitment to academic excellence throughout her junior and senior years. Alexis was a member of the track and field team her ninth and 11th grade years. She has also been a dedicated member of the varsity cheerleading team all four years of high school. She has received honors in both cheerleading and track and field by lettering in them. Alexis finds time to give back to her community by volunteering at the food bank, National Night Out and teaching middle schoolers about the outdoors. Juggling her commitments, Alexis also works part-time at Subway, where she has earned frequent recognition awards. In her free time, Alexis enjoys playing video games, riding horses and reading. Alexis plans to attend college and pursue a degree in biology, aspiring to become a neurologist in the future.

Tate Sechrist, son of Susan and Steven Sechrist, Tate has established a strong presence in various sports and extracurricular activities throughout his high school years. He actively participated in football and basketball during his freshman and sophomore years, engaging in track, wrestling, powder puff and student council during his junior year. In his senior year, Tate continued to demonstrate his leadership skills as the captain of the football team, showcasing remarkable performance and commitment. His outstanding athletic prowess has not gone unnoticed, with Tate securing the prestigious titles of 2-time all-state and 2-time all-conference for football. He also earned a letter in both football and basketball during his sophomore year. Tate has also maintained an impressive academic record, consistently securing a place on the honor roll for all four years of high school. Tate actively contributes to the community through his involvement in various volunteer activities. Notably, he dedicates his free time to volunteering at the The New Love Center, participating in blood drives, and coaching youth football, showcasing his commitment to giving back to the community. Tate enjoys spending quality time with his family, engaging in farming and hunting and pursuing his passion for lifting weights. Looking ahead, Tate has set his sights on pursuing higher education and securing a promising career.
