Lewisburg Children’s Museum launches Hands in Clay workshop series with artist Ellen Jamiolkowski
LEWISBURG — The Lewisburg Children’s Museum will host Ellen Jamiolkowski as an artist-in-residence in partnership with the Perry County Council of the Arts for a series of workshops called Hands in Clay.
Workshops for elementary-age children are available on April 13, 20 and 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. with participants returning May 4 to decorate their projects. A preschool-age Hands in Clay workshop will be April 25, 10 to 11 a.m., with the decorating day on May 4.
“The Lewisburg Children’s Museum is excited to host such a unique program. This will be a great way to introduce kids to sculpting and clay techniques,” said Michelle Heintzelman, the museum’s education director. “We enjoy partnering with local artists to promote community while teaching our children about the arts.”
Children will explore clay through hands-on art projects and learn about clay sculpting techniques. From rolling, draping, pressing and molding clay, children will have a completed project at the end of each session
“We are excited to partner with the museum and the other funders to bring artist Ellen Jamiolkowski to work with the children in the Lewisburg area,” said Jasmine Colbert, executive director of the Perry County Council of the Arts. “We know that artistic and creative expression is essential to the growth and development of children.”
Pre-registration for the workshops is required and available on the LCM’s website, www.lewisburgchildrensmuseum.org, or by calling the museum directly at 570-768-4914.
Participants may register to attend one or more of the workshops plus the decorating day on May 4.
