Students of the month of May selected at Jersey Shore high school

Jersey Shore Area High School and the Lions Club have named Olivia Miller and Alyssa Straub, respectively, the students of the month for May.

Olivia Raye Miller has been selected as May’s Student of the Month by the Business Professional Women’s organization. Olivia, the daughter of Michael and Jennifer Miller, has exemplified excellence both academically and athletically throughout her high school years.

Olivia’s academic prowess is evident from her consistent performance, having earned Distinguished Honor Roll status since her freshman year. Her stellar grades have not only secured her a place among multiple prestigious societies but also earned her leadership roles. She is a two-year member of the Nation Honor Society, National English Honor Society, vice president of National Spanish Honor Society and president of Mu Alpha Theta.

Furthermore, Olivia has been actively involved in extracurricular activities, including Key Club and YDTF initiatives, throughout all four years of high school. Her participation in Key Club has seen her volunteer at the Love Center and engage in numerous community service projects, including the Sticker Shock campaign organized by YDTF.

Balancing her academic pursuits with athletic endeavors, Olivia has excelled on the field as well. She has participated in two varsity sports: Cross Country for three years and Track and Field for four years. Her dedication and talent were recognized as she became the Cross Country captain in her senior year and earned varsity letters in both Cross Country and Track and Field for three years.

Outside of her school commitments, Olivia finds joy in attending Bible study, trail running, and spending quality time with her family. Looking ahead, Olivia has set her sights on Messiah University, where she plans to pursue a nursing degree. Despite her academic and extracurricular commitments, she intends to continue her running career by joining the Messiah University Cross Country and Track and Field teams.

Alyssa Straub was given the esteemed Lions Club award for May. As the daughter of Casey and Josh Smith, Alyssa’s dedication to excellence and her remarkable contributions to her school and community have earned her this well-deserved recognition. Throughout her high school journey, Alyssa has exemplified the values of leadership, service, and academic excellence. Her involvement in a multitude of extracurricular activities, ranging from athletics to community service, reflects her commitment to making a positive impact in every sphere of her life.

As a standout athlete in the swimming pool, Alyssa has demonstrated her athletic prowess and leadership skills. Serving as the captain of the swim team during her junior and senior years, Alyssa’s leadership was instrumental in guiding her team to success and fostering a culture of teamwork and determination.

In addition to her athletic achievements, Alyssa has been an active member of various clubs and organizations, including the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), the Outdoor Club, and the Yearbook committee. Her dedication to these extracurricular pursuits, coupled with her role as editor of the “Orange and Black” during her junior and senior years, highlights her creativity, organizational skills, and commitment to excellence.

Alyssa’s academic achievements are equally impressive, earning her membership in prestigious honor societies such as the National English Honor Society, the National Honor Society, and National Business Honor Society. Her consistent presence on the Distinguished Honor Roll throughout her high school career is a testament to her intellectual curiosity, diligence, and academic excellence.

Outside of her academic and extracurricular pursuits, Alyssa has also made significant contributions to her community through her volunteer work at the New Love Center. Despite her busy schedule, Alyssa finds solace in her hobbies, enjoying activities such as lifting, fishing, and spending quality time with friends and family. Following high school, Alyssa intends to enroll in Susquehanna University with the goal of earning a marketing degree.
