Jersey Shore names final students of the month for 2023-24 school year

Jersey Shore High School has announced Grace Margaret Russell and MaKailynn “Katie” Ashlynn Rennicks as the June students of the month for the Lions Club’s and Business Professional Women, respectively.

Grace is the daughter of Heidi and Robert Russell of Cogan Station.

Her high school journey has been marked by active participation in a diverse range of extracurricular activities. As a member of the school band for one year and a dedicated player on the softball team for four years, Grace has demonstrated her commitment to both musical and athletic pursuits. Grace’s athletic skills on the softball field is evident from her three years of varsity lettering and consecutive awards as Defensive Player of the Year for two years.

Grace’s academic achievements are equally impressive, earning her membership in both the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society for two years each. Her leadership as treasurer of the Spanish Honor Society in her senior year further showcases her dedication to academic excellence and involvement in the school community. Her leadership roles within the Key Club, where she served as treasurer in her junior year and president in her senior year, exemplify her organizational skills and dedication to service. Similarly, her involvement in the Youth Development Task Force (YDTF), where she served as a student ambassador in her junior and senior years, underscores her commitment to making a positive impact within her school and community. Grace was crowned the 2023 Jersey Shore High School Homecoming Queen.

Outside of her academic and extracurricular commitments, Grace has dedicated her time to various part-time jobs, including working at Subway for one year and Helminiak’s Greenhouse for two years. Additionally, she shares her passion for karate by teaching youth in her free time. Her dedication to the sport is further reflected in her leisure activities, as she spends her free time attending karate sessions on weekends and playing softball.

As Grace looks toward her future, she plans to attend Pennsylvania College of Technology to pursue a degree in Radiography. Her determination, leadership, and commitment to excellence make her a deserving recipient of the Lions Club’s Student of the Month award.

The daughter of Valeria and Wayne Getgen, Katie’s exceptional achievements and dedication to both academic and extracurricular pursuits have earned her this prestigious recognition.

Throughout her high school career, Katie has been deeply involved in activities that showcase her leadership, commitment, and service to her school and community. Serving on the student council for four years, culminating in her role as president in her senior year, Katie has demonstrated her ability to lead and inspire her peers. Her participation in events such as the Constitutional Convention and Model United Nations for two years each highlights her interest in civic engagement and global issues.

Additionally, Katie has been involved in the homecoming committee for three years, including serving as a class representative of the court in her sophomore year.

Academically, Katie’s achievements are equally impressive, earning her membership in prestigious organizations such as the National Honor Society for two years and Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) for one year.

Her commitment to excellence extends beyond the classroom, as evidenced by her four years of participation in varsity softball, where she has undoubtedly displayed her athleticism and teamwork. Katie’s regularly donates blood with the Red Cross and volunteers at the Food Bank, demonstrating her compassion and dedication to helping others in need.

Outside of her academic and volunteer commitments, Katie enjoys spending quality time with her family, shopping with friends, enjoying lazy days, and attending movies. Looking ahead to her future, Katie plans to attend college to study radiology with the goal of becoming an X-ray technician and working in a hospital setting.
