LEWISBURG -- Surgical services at Evangelical Community Hospital recently presented its ORchid Award for outstanding performance to staff.
The quarterly award "is designed to recognize staff members who are vital to a successful operating room experience but are often not seen because what they do is done while the patient is sedated or asleep or takes place prior to or after surgery," according to a press release announcing the award.
Carlos Sura, certified surgical technologist, was presented the award on Tuesday.
"He was nominated for his excellent work ethic, being a team player, his positive attitude through the workday and his team-building attitude, often bringing in authentic Mexican food for the team," the press release said.
The award is presented in front of the winner's nominator, the executive leadership team and members of the surgical team with which they work. Awardees receive an orchid that symbolizes the award (purple orchids represent dignity, respect and admiration), a pin, and a pizza party for the team they work with.
The very first recipient of the honor, Kolbie Straub, operating room assistant, was presented the award on Jan. 30, 2023. She was nominated "for her dedication and willingness to go above and beyond every day to assist any staff requests," the press release said. "She does so without complaint, is always pleasant, and strives very hard to do everything with excellence."
Employees receiving the award exhibit qualities and behaviors that represent the hospital's core values of quality, service, respect, compassion, integrity, creativity, professionalism and cooperation, the release said.
