Twenty-five years ago, Hillside Restaurant underwent a major facelift as it became Hillside Senior Living. The assisted living center, located at 2725 Four Mile Drive, Montoursville, will commemorate that milestone with an open house later this week.
"Prior to being an assisted living facility, the property was home to Hillside Restaurant," said admissions coordinator Tessa Pugliese. "That same restaurant space is used for our dining room for the residents."
"There's been a lot added on," she said. "The rooms weren't here prior to the opening of the senior center."
Hillside offers personal care, which includes assisting residents with activities of daily living such as bathing or maintaining a medication schedule, or help with laundry and light housekeeping, according to Hillside's website.
Additionally, Hillside offers Secure Memory Care, a locked unit dedicated to those stricken with dementia, Alzheimer's disease or other conditions that impact patient memory.
To celebrate their 25th anniversary, Hillside will host an open house on Thursday, March 7, from 1 to 4 p.m.
"We want people to come see us as kind of a walk down memory lane of the Hillside," Pugliese said. "We're going to be having some old pictures of the groundbreaking and some information from that time, and tours of the facility will also be offered."
"We will be having hors d'oeuvres from Hillside Catering. It'll be reminiscent of the time when they actually had the restaurant here," she added.
David Miele, one of the original owners of the Hillside Restaurant, will be on hand to talk about the history of Hillside as well, Pugliese said.
