Kaeli Newcomb, CRNP, Intensive Care Unit, UPMC Williamsport, was recently recognized as a recipient of the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.
Newcomb was nominated by a co-worker who shared:
"Kaeli and I have worked together the last five years. Having her as my sister's nurse the last several days while she was on this earth was a blessing. My sister was an extremely sick and unstable patient and Kaeli provided excellent care to her with such grace and empathy. Kaeli provided great care for my sister and always advocated for what she needed. She was extremely kind, caring and empathetic to my entire family. She did all she could for my sister and family before and after my sister's passing. Kaeli will forever hold a special place in our hearts."
The DAISY Foundation was established in 1999 in California by the family of J. Patrick Barnes, who died at the age of 33 from complications of an auto-immune disease.
Nurses are nominated by patients, family members of patients, as well as other health care professionals. DAISY Awards are presented to nurses at UPMC in North Central Pa. monthly. Each DAISY Award Honoree is given a DAISY Award pin, a certificate of honor and a stone sculpture titled "A Healer's Touch," handcrafted by a tribe in Zimbabwe.
