Geisinger ADMI to offer sensory-friendly viewing of kids’ movie ‘Trolls’

LEWISBURG - Children with special developmental needs and their families are invited to a sensory-friendly showing of the 2016 film Trolls on at 1 p.m. Sunday, April 28, at the Campus Theatre, 413 Market St., Lewisburg.

The movie is part of Geisinger's Autism & Developmental Medicine Institute's (ADMI) sensory-friendly film series, according to a press release announcing the event.

The loud music, vivid special effects, explosions and fast scene changes in many films can be difficult for children with special needs, who can experience these effects as sensory overload, the release said.

The movies shown as part of the Sensory-Friendly Film Series will be shown in 2-D and will begin on time with no previews or trailers. These showings will lower the volume of music and special effects and provide low-level lighting instead of total darkness, according to the release.

"The showing will also provide a comfortable and accepting environment for those who want to get up, move around or make noise," the release said.

Doors will open at 12:30 p.m. and the movie will begin promptly at 1 p.m. Admission is free but donations will be accepted to fund future screenings. Families may bring or purchase snacks.
