ER nurse earns DAISY Award at Evangelical Community Hospital

2 min read

Dana Breon, RN, Emergency Department, was recently presented the DAISY Award at Evangelical Community Hospital.

The award is given to a deserving nurse who exemplifies clinical expertise and compassionate care, recognizing them as a role model in the nursing community.

Breon was presented the award surrounded by her fellow coworkers, hospital and nursing leadership and her daughter.

Nominated by patient Ernest Delp, Breon was praised for her work on two different occasions when Delp presented to the Emergency Department for post-surgical complications, both times resulting in admission to the hospital.

"Dana was very kind, comforting and compassionate. She stayed with me as much as she could even though she had other patients. She made me feel like I was the only patient in the entire Emergency Department," Delp said in his nomination.

On his second visit, Breon was once again the nurse on duty, and the patient in the next room was verbally abusive, Delp said.

"Dana displays the utmost care and professionalism for her patients," he said. "After Dana was finished in that patient's room, she returned to my room and did not miss a beat. She was just as caring and compassionate."

Nominations for the DAISY award can be made by patients, patient family members, colleagues, and providers.
