UPMC in North Central Pa. recently recognized four staff members with the BEE Award for their outstanding support of the nursing team.
The BEE Award, meaning Be Extraordinary Every Day, recognizes the care team that supports nursing staff and works closely with them to provide patients with the compassion and care they need.
Bekah Anderson, patient care technician, UPMC Williamsport; Karen Eberly, CNA, UPMC Wellsboro; Lisa Bower, unit clerk, UPMC Outpatient Emergency Department at Lock Haven; and Stephanie Herr, CNA, Muncy Place, were all honored with BEE Awards.
Bekah was nominated by a patient's family member who shared:
"My husband suffered a stroke and Bekah never needed to be called to help. She knew what time medications were given and would alert the RN so my husband wouldn't have to wait. She treated him with respect, restoring his sense of dignity. Bekah would often pop her head in his room with cheerful greetings just to say hello, even though he wasn't her assignment. She never wavered and handled herself with confidence that made my husband feel secure. My husband felt at ease knowing that Bekah was on night shift.
Karen was nominated by a patient's family member who shared:
"Karen was very helpful and compassionate in caring for my husband. She stepped up and took such good care of my husband. Karen is a gem and every patient should have the great level of care she provides."
Lisa was nominated by five co-workers, two who shared:
"Lisa is an amazing worker. She is patient and always helpful. She's a complete joy to work with and we are so fortunate to have her. I'm glad she is part of our team."
"Lisa is a wonderful asset and we are so lucky to have her. She is always pleasant with staff and patients and is always willing to lend a hand. She does her job with a smile on her face and comes in with a positive attitude."
Stephanie was nominated by a resident who shared:
"Stephanie is a five-star employee. No one is as caring and goes out of their way to be as kind and loving as Stephanie. She deserves to be recognized for her devotion to her profession. She makes me smile and I miss her when she is not here."
