Geisinger Medical Center Muncy earns Level IV trauma accreditation

Geisinger Medical Center Muncy has earned Level IV trauma accreditation from the Pennsylvania Trauma Systems Foundation (PTSF), according to a news release from Geisinger.

Trauma centers are specialized hospitals staffed and equipped to provide immediate, complex care for patients with severe or life-threatening injuries. At Geisinger, trauma care is truly a team effort. Relying on the expertise and coordination of emergency department staff, local and Geisinger emergency medical services, Geisinger Life Flight, and first responders across our communities to provide around-the-clock care when it matters most, the news release added.

“To achieve trauma accreditation takes dedication, teamwork and a relentless focus on patient safety,” said Tammy Anderer, chief administrative officer. “This recognition reflects the hard work of our caregivers and support teams and reinforces our promise to provide timely, high-quality care to the communities we serve.”

To receive trauma accreditation, hospitals undergo a comprehensive review by PTSF that evaluates resources, clinical capabilities and the delivery of care for patients with traumatic injuries. The process ensures hospitals meet rigorous standards designed to improve outcomes and strengthen regional trauma systems.

This accreditation reflects the exceptional teamwork and clinical excellence demonstrated every day at Geisinger Medical Center Muncy”, said Jason Schauer, M.D., north-central region chief medical officer. “Level IV trauma designation ensures that patients in our rural communities have rapid access to high-quality trauma care close to home, while also strengthening our regional trauma system.”

Geisinger Medical Center Muncy is the latest hospital in the system to earn trauma accreditation, joining other Geisinger facilities across the state:
