1989, the year the Mariners came to town

The year was 1989 when the Seattle Mariners came to town with an AA Eastern League farm team known as the Williamsport Bills. Mayor Jessie L. Bloom greeted the new team the week of April 3 as they warmed up at Bowman Field. She even threw out a pitch. The Bills were a farm team for the Mariners for two years: 1989 and 1990. They finished seventh both years. Jay Ward was manager in 1989. Major leaguers Tino Martinez, Rich DeLucia and Mike Gardiner played for the Bills during the Mariners years.
