Being in woods to hunt allows time to reflect

By ANTHONY SEGRAVES 2 min read

Many of us are again looking forward to the start of the 2022-2023 hunting season. I'm reminded of all the excitement that each season brings. Is this the year that I may have an opportunity for that big buck that I have waited years to bag?

Is this the year that I will be lucky enough to get my first bear?

All, or some, of these questions might be answered for me in the next few months of the hunting season, so I hope.

These are some of the things that every hunter begins to think as the nights become cool and the start of the season approaches. The wonderful thing about every hunting season is possibilities.

If you are like me, every January I begin sending in my vacation request and most of my time revolves around what days I will be taking off to go hunting in the upcoming year. When I was first married, my wife would go nuts about how much vacation that I planned to be in the woods. Now a day, she has come to an understanding of why this season means so much to me.

It is not about being away from family or responsibilities. Hunting season is when I recharge my batteries for the rest of the year. We all live very hectic lives between family, church, work and a grueling world.

During this time in nature, I am able to slow things down and allow my brain to rest for a few moments. It also allows me time to reflect on what is going on in my life and the lives of my family.

Everyone is in need of this kind of rest or reset in their lives. It does not have to revolve around hunting. For you It could be hiking, biking or fishing, but it is important to find the right activity for you to reconnect with yourself.

If you are hunter, I wish you the best of luck this upcoming season.
