The Eastern Hellbender salamander will be the topic of a presentation at the monthly meeting of the Loyalsock Creek Watershed Association at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 18, at the Plunkett's Creek Township Volunteer Fire Department located in Barbours.

Dr. Peter Petokas, Research Associate with the Lycoming College Clean Water Institute, will discuss the biology of the giant salamander, how it attained status as the Pennsylvania State Amphibian, and his ongoing research projects in local watersheds over the past seventeen years.

His most recent studies have included deep water survey methods employing SCUBA, environmental DNA analysis, water quality assessment, habitat evaluation, and quantification of the salamander's primary food supply (crayfish).

His research utilizes the assistance of students from Lycoming College and Lock haven University, community volunteers, and has support from community organizations and local industries. All are welcome to attend.
