PA Game Commission releases the pheasant stocking schedule

The Pennsylvania Game Commission will be releasing ring-necked pheasants for the 2022 hunting season. There will be 16,000 pheasants stocked statewide. According to the Pennsylvania Game Commission, the statewide ring-necked pheasant hunting season runs throughout the fall, and coming up runs Dec. 12-23 and Dec. 26-Feb. 27.
In Lycoming County, pheasants will be stocked at SGL 252 and released throughout the game lands at herbaceous openings accessible from any of the parking areas along Ridge, Pikes Peak, Alvira and Mill roads.
In Tioga County, they will be releassed at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Tioga Dam complex, north of Mansfield along Tioga River and west of Route 15 (Lambs Creek) and at the Hammond Dam complex from Ives Run, access road west along old railroad grade (Bryant Hollow) to Holliday.
If flooding restricts access to Lambs Creek or Bryant Hollow, alternate location is the USACE Cowanesque Lake Complex on the north side of the lake as accessed by Bliss Road in Nelson.
In Union County, pheasants will be stokced at SGL 193 at the herbaceous opening east of Supplee Mill Road parking area. They also will be released at SGL 201 at the herbaceous openings along Mensch Road, SGL 252 along the herbaceous openings throughout the game lands accessible from any of the parking areas along Alvira Road and Route 44; and SGL 317 at the herbaceous openings throughout the game lands accessible from any of the parking areas along Palman, Laurel and Glover roads and Route 45.
In Potter County, they will be released at SGL 64 along the east side of Phoenix Run Road, about 2.5 miles norht of Route 6 and SGL 204 south of Route 44, along West Branch of Whitney Creek, known as Castle Hollow.
In McKean County they will be released at SGL 61, Gittleman Farm parcel at Tramroad Hollow in Liberty, accessed from Upper Portage Road (T404) and Nivers Farm on Allegheny National Forest, six miles west of Kane on Route 6 near Wetmore intersection on Old Nivers Road.
In Sullivan County they will be released at Ricketts Glen State Park on the hay fields on east side of Route 487 just north of Lake Jean and south of the Red Rock Job Corp; SGL 13 fields on the west side of Painter Den Run at the end of Newell Road off SR 487; and SGL 66 on the fields on western side of Rouse Pond Road just south of the intersection with Dutch Mountain Road.
Pheasants will be released in Northumberland County at SGL 84 from Route 225 in Dornsife, a half-mile north on Dornsife Mountain Road; and SGL 165 at the parking area located along Irish Valley Road.
In Columbia County, they will be released at SGL 58, four miles south of Mainville on Route 339 and at SGL 226 in Madison Township, two miles west of Millville.
Throughout Pennsylvania, pheasants are stocked on state game lands, other state, federal and county properties and on properties enrolled in the PGC Hunter Access Program. The best opportunities for hunters is on the tate game lands where most pheasants are released.
Even though these areas are hunted hard, many birds remain motionless in dense cover, often going undetected by hunters. When pheasants are stocked, they may travel a considerable distance looking for suitable habitat.
According to an interactive map provided by the Pennsylvania Game Commission and accessible on their website, at SGL 75 in Lycoming County, a total of 690 birds were released in 2021. At SGL 252, a total number of 3,630 birds were released in 2021.
SGL 317 in Union County saw 1,820 birds released in 2021, SGL 201 saw 255 released last year, and SGL 193 in Union County saw 265 released.
