District Forester Chris Nicholas announced the 43 miles of designated ATV trails on the Susquehannock State Forest will open on Friday, May 26. The ATV riding season opens that Friday and ends on Sept. 24. To legally ride on designated state forest ATV trails, rider's machines must be registered and insured, and they must carry a current registration card and proof of liability insurance.
All riders must wear protective DOT approved helmets too.
No one under the age of 8 can operate an ATV on state forest trails. All riders between the ages of 8 and 16 must have completed a prescribed safety training course and received an ATV safety training certificate. This certificate must be carried by the rider. Age 8- and 9-year-old operators are restricted to an engine size of 70 cc or less.
Riders are advised to read Pennsylvania's All-Terrain Vehicle Law. Information is available at the Susquehannock State Forest District Office.
These trails are separate from the ATV Regional Connector Pilot roads and trails. To be legal on the pilot connectors the rider's machine must be registered and insured and they must have a current Connector Pass for that machine.
