LYCOMING AUDUBON: CHAPTER MEETING

WHEN: Wednesday, May 22 at 6:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join Lycoming Audubon for a program on ruffed grouse and the American woodcock, presented by Reina Tyl, Pennsylvania Game Commission woodcock and grouse biologist. The program is free and open to the public. You can also attend virtually with Zoom using the link found at the LAS website at www.lycomingaudubon.org.
BIRDING AT HYNER RUN
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park
WHEN: Friday, May 24 at 4 p.m.
NOTES: Join the naturalist for some "Birding at Hyner Run State Park." Topics will include the different birds that live at Hyner Run and also how to identify them. Those attending are encouraged to bring your own binoculars and other birding gear.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines.
Anyone interested should meet by the amphitheater by the pool.
CAVITY NESTERS
WHERE: Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Friday, May 24 at 7:30 p.m.
NOTES: Join the park naturalist to learn all about bluebirds and other cavity nesters in Little Pine State Park. The program will include a walk to some of the cavity nester boxes along the Lakeshore Trail to see if there is any activity.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines.
Anyone interested should meet at the beginning of Lakeshore Trail, near the kiosk at the top of the dam.
SOLITARY RATS
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Saturday, May 25 at 8 p.m.(Little Pine State Park) and Sunday, May 26 at 8 p.m. (Hyner Run State Park)
NOTES: A program entitled "Solitary Rats" will be focusing on a type of packrat that is mainly solitary and not very common in Pennsylvania: the Allegheny woodrat. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.
The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. A movie will be shown at the Little Pine State Park program.
Anyone interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Anyone interested in the Little Pine State Park program should meet at the amphitheater.
Please bring a lawn chair.
TERRIFIC TREES
WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park
WHEN: Sunday, May 26 at 3:30 p.m. (Hyner Run State Park) and Saturday, May 25 at 3:30 p.m. (Little Pine State Park)
NOTES: Join the park naturalist to take a look and tell the difference between some of the terrific tree species in Hyner Run State Park. There will be a craft at the end.
This program will be suited towards families with children, but anyone is welcome to attend.
All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines.
Those interested in the Hyner Run State Park program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Those interested in the Little Pine State Park program should meet near the latrines at the lower picnic area.
LYCOMING AUDUBON: STATE GAME LAND 252 BIRDING TOUR
WHERE: Meet at the parking lot just west of the Game Commission Crew Building. Detailed directions at the Lycoming Audubon Society website.
WHEN: Saturday, May 25 at 1 p.m.
NOTES: Join Mercy Melo, Game Commission educator, to tour State Game Land 252, a birder's paradise of habitat diversity. At this game land, habitat crews manage for grasslands, forests and early successional habitat while also boasting a great variety of wetlands, ponds and creeks giving birders a great opportunity to see quite a wide vareity of birds in Lycoming County.
This will be a 2-4 mile walk. The program is free and open to the public. For more etails, visit www.lycomingaudubon.org.
LYCOMING AUDUBON: BIRDING FOR FAMILIES AT CANFIELD ISLAND
WHERE: Riverfront Park Pavilion in Loyalsock
WHEN: Saturday, June 1 at 9 a.m.
NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for a bird walk intended for kids, parents and grandparents. We will take a leisurely, easy Saturday morning stroll around Canfield Island where we will enjoy birds settling in for the season, appreciate the diversified landscape, walk through a quiet woodland and, of course, view the Susquehanna River for waterfowl.
We will stop and chat not only about birds, butterflies and wildflowers, but some local history.

WHEN: Satuday, June 8 at 8 a.m.
NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society to see purple martins at an Amish farm that has set up specific birdhouses for purple martins called condominiums. The program is free and open to the public.
