RIDER PARK BLUEBIRD TRAIL

NOTES: Explore the Lycoming Audubon Bluebird Trail while monitoring nest boxes. You’ll be able to learn about the bluebirds, their calls, nests, habitat and how they raise their young.

The program is free and open to the public.

SUMMER WILDFLOWERS OF LITTLE PINE

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 19 at 8 p.m.

NOTES: Take a stroll around Little Pine State Park with the naturalist to see the different summer wildflowers of Little Pine. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.

The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. Those interested should meet at the amphitheater.

PHOTO SCAVENGER HUNT

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 19 at 3:30 p.m.

NOTES: Bring a camera or cell phone for this high-tech photo scavenger hunt at Little Pine State Park. Find the items on the list, take a photo and get a prize.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines. Those interested should meet at the amphitheater.

LOCAL HISTORY DAY

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Saturday, July 20 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NOTES: Join the naturalist and guest speakers for a great day of local history. There will be five programs dealing with the local history of the area, including a program about some of the camps in Clinton County and its surroundings — which includes the CCC Camp at Hyner Run — that starts at 11 a.m. (presented by the park naturalist), a program on the coal industry in the area that starts at 1 p.m. (presented by Lou Bernard, overseer of the Adult Services at Ross Library and local historian), a program about the history of the forests that starts at 2 p.m. (presented by Lin Greenaway, Forester of the Sproul State Forest), a program on the lumber industry of the area that is ongoing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (presented by Jennifer Haines, Museum Educator at the PA Lumber Museum) and a program on branding tree cookies for a memento to take home that is ongoing from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. (presented by the campground hosts of Hyner Run State Park).

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in the program. Program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. “CCC of Clinton County” and “Coal Industry” will be held at the amphitheater by the pool and will be moved to Pavilion No. 1 in the event of rain. “Forests of the Past” will be held at Pavilion No. 1.

The two ongoing programs will be held on the lawn by the amphitheater. Please bring a lawn chair.

ARCHERY

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Saturday, July 27 at 1 p.m.

NOTES: Join the park education and get an introductionary course in archery at Little Pine State Park. All the equipment will be provided.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those who are interested should meet at the archery range at the northern end of the park.

RIDER PARK STAR PARTY

WHERE: Ryder Park

WHEN: Friday, August 9 at 8:30 p.m.

NOTES: Rider Park is hosting a “Star Party” with Central Pennsylvania Observers on Friday, Aug. 9. Those should arrive at 8:30-9 p.m. and the show will begin at 9:15 p.m.

Those interested should park in the main pakring lot. You will be greeted and directed to the picnic pavilion. Please bring binoculars, a chair, blankets, warm clothes and red flashlights are encouraged.

NATURE JOURNALING

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Saturday, August 10 from 2-4 p.m.

NOTES: Lose your inhibitions and be inspired by nature. You can learn how to make quick field journal sketches with Donna Woodland, a frequent hiker at Rider Park. Those interested should meet at the picnic pavilion. All materials will be provided. You are welcome to bring your favorite sketching materials, water colors and water.

FAMILY NATURE ADVENTURE

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Saturday, August 3 beginning at 4 p.m.

NOTES: The James V. Brown Library is hosting family nature adventure from 4-6 p.m. and a campfire hangout from 6-8 p.m. at RIder Park. Those interested in more information should visit the James V. Brown Library events calendar.

Those interested should park int he main parking lot and walk to the picnic pavilion. Additional parking is available at Eldred Township Volunteer Fire Company. A shuttle van will be available to transport to and from the park.
