The Sullivan County Shooting Sports team participated in the Scholastic Clay Training Program International Trap and Skeet Competitions in mid-July and saw plenty of success all around. The competitions were allo with a few of the American Discipline competitors as well.
The team often competes in the international disciplines, but this year for the first time at the SCTP Nationals, Makayla Day, Braeden and Allison Fisher and Lucy Myers all competed in the American trap competitions.
Allison Fisher shot her first 25 straight which earned her the right to have her hat shot at in the celebration of the milestone. Lucy Myers ran 95 straight targets before missing her only one, finishing with an impressive 99 out of 100. Lucy and Shelby Myers both competed in the American skeet competition and Shelby combined in sporting clays as well.
On the international side, Shelby Myers competed in the international skeet competition which consists of 125 targets and a final for the top-6 athletes. Shelby, who is new to the sport, learned a lot and only missed the women’s final by five targets, but brought home the first-place medal for the intermediate ladies group.
Addison Strausser, Braeden and Allison Fisher and Lucy and Mason Myers all competed in the international trap competition which features 125 targets and a final for the top-6 men and women. All had their ups and downs for the five rounds of 25 targets with the weather going from rainy and dark to sunny and humid.

Lucy Myers began with a rough round on the first day, but was able to pull things together and finished strong enough to tie two other athletes for fifth and sixth place after the 125 targets. Only six girls can compete in the final, so to decide who got the final two bibs, there was a shoot-off. It allowed Lucy to secure the fifth-place bib.
In the final event, 25 targets were shot using only one shell. During the first 125, each competitor gets two shots at each target. After the first 25 targets in the final round, Lucy finished with an 18 of 25 score. The sixth-place shooter was then eliminated and the remaining five started the next round of 25 or more targets.
Lucy shot 24 of 25 targets and finished in first place.
The top 3 women are awarded with a spot on the SCTP International Sports Team. This team offers top training to help the athletes to advance to the USA team, in which gives them opportunities to shoot in world-wide events.”
