Audubon Event:

Zindel Park in Clinton County

WHERE: Zindel Park.

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 12 at 8 a.m.

NOTES: Join Lycoming Audubon Society for a leisurely walk on open roads and trails looking for fall migrants, late resident birds, and possible early winter arrivals. Tick precautions are recommended.

NATIONAL HIKING DAY

WHERE: Rider Park

WHEN: Thursday, Oct. 17 from 9-11 a.m.

NOTES: Join Rider Park manager Sara Street for a hike to the new vista for National Hiking Day. It’s a special day dedicated to celebrating the great outdoors and promoting the activity of hiking. It provides an opportunity for individuals to connect with nature, explore scenic trails and reap the numerous physical and mental health benefits that hiking has to offer. This annual observance aims to raise awareness about the importance of outdoor activities and encourage people of all ages to embrace the joys of hiking.

We will meet in the main parking area. Plan to hike roughly 2.5-3 miles as we tour the meadow areas, Cheryl’s trail, a new vista and finish by hiking back on the Green trail.

EARLY SUCCESSIONAL

HABITAT FOR BIRDS

WHERE: Rider Park

WHEN: Friday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon.

NOTES: Josh Rittenhouse, Mid-Atlantic Audubon Society Forest Program association, will lead those on a hike to explore early successional habitat for birds. We will tour a new American Woodcock habitat for birds. We will tour a new American Woodcock habitat enhancement project, and several sites where timber was cut in 2017.

Please come prepared to hike. Anyone interested should register by calling 570-321-1500 or by emailing AmyP@FCFPartnership.org.

Audubon Event: Lime Bluff Recreation Area

WHERE: Lime Bluff Recreation Area (Hughesville)

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 19 at 4 p.m.

NOTES: Join Lycoming Audubon Society for a leisurely walk along the gravel and mowed paths of the Lime Bluff Recreation Area to look for raptors and songbirds.

This walk will take place in the late afternoon for those who can’t make the morning bird walks. Program is free and open to the public.

Audubon Event: Chapter Meeting

WHERE: Taber Museum in Williamsport

WHEN: Wednesday, Oct. 23 at 6:30 p.m.

NOTES: Join Lycoming Audubon Society for a program about Bird Town Pennsylvania presented by Heidi Shiver. This state-wide grassroots conservation program works with municipalities to engage, educate and empower their residents, schools, and businesses to make more positive social, economic, and ecologically friendly decisions.

Tools and resources available to engage homeowners from Backyard Habitat Programs to Community Science Programs will be shared as well as impactful municipal and community projects.

WHERE: Robert Porter Allen Natural Area

WHEN: Saturday, Oct. 26 at 8:30 a.m.

NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for a bird walk on an easy trail and learn about the Robert Porter Allen Natural Area. This site — known by many as Sylvan Dell — is just east of Little League Stadium. As resources, time and effort come together, it will become a beautiful natural area for the public. Program is free and open to the public.
