Myers of the Sullivan Co. shooting team takes gold at competition

The USA Shooting men’s, women’s and junior’s National Trap Teams have been named, bringing the 2025 Trap Spring Selection Match in West Palm Beach to a close.
Among those named to the2025 national junior women’s trap team included a local face in Lucy Myers of the Sullivan County shooting team .
The other members were:
• Men’s Trap: Olympic gold medalist Glen Eller, Olympian William Hinton, Derek Haldeman, Logan Lucas, two-time Olympian Derrick Mein, and Olympic bronze medalist Brian Burrows
• Women’s Trap: Olympian Rachel Tozier, Ava Downs, Carey Garrison, Aiko Bianca Coloso, Micaela Velasquez, and Loretta Christian

• Junior Men’s Trap: Jackson Schroder, Kaleb Horinek, Ramsey Bodeen, Max Hatfield, and Ryan Brown
• Junior Women’s Trap: Ava Downs, Carey Garrison, Micaela Velasquez and Taylor Dale.
Myers and Addison Strausser, both of the Sullivan County Shooting Team, made the trip to Florida to compete. Lucy is a 19-year-old freshman at Liberty University and a member of the Flames shotgun team. Strausser is a 17-year-old senior at Hughesville and is committed to Jacksonville University and their shotgun team in the fall of 2025.
Both girls attended competition in Hillsdale Michigan in September of 2024.
Myers finished with 209/250 targets to earn a spot to compete in the junior final, then took fourth overall and first in the colleged-age group.

Strausser unfortunately struggled with gun issues throughout the week but was still able to make changes and finish all 250 targets out. Myers scored 200/250 earning her spots in both the women’s open final and the junior women’s final. to compete for medals.
Going into the women’s final first, Myers shot with the top 6 women of the week. Myers shot 19 targets out of 25 and secured her place to continue. And, after 15 more targets and four competitors eliminated, it came down to Myers and Olympian Rachel Tozier for 10 more targets.
Myers admits shooting with her made her excited and nervous, but she finished strong only three targets behind for silver.
After a 30-minute break, Myers competed with the top 6 lady juniors (21 and under) of the week. Tired but determined, she shot 21 of the first 25 targets. The next 25 targets were a battle between her and Carey Garrison, who went to Paris as a backup for the Olympics.
After 50 targets, the two were tied at the fnish and went to sudden death competition. Garrison hit the first three targets as well as Myers. Carey missed the fourth before Myers hit her mark for gold. Micaela Velasquez finished with bronze.
After 500 targets and two long weeks of competing, Myers also earned a spot on the 2025 junior national trap team to represent Team USA and will get a new national team vest. She’s looking forward to traveling abroad.
Medals were also awarded for the top three finishers in men’s and women’s under-18, under-15 and collegiate categories.
A handful of athletes also competed in the Paralympic Trap category. Although Paralympic Trap is not currently on the program for the Paralympic Games, there is a possibility that the event will be added to the Los Angeles 2028 Games.
