Outdoors community calendar for week of March 11

RIDER RATTLER

WHERE: Rider Park

WHEN: Saturday, March 19 at 10 a.m.

NOTES: This event is an 8-mile and 4-mile trail race. To register, go to ultrasignup.com and search for Rider Rattler. Long sleeve T-shirt and a meal for all participants who sign up before March 1.

All participants in the race will receive a meal afterwards and proceeds will be split between Rider Park and Pursue Your Happiniess, a non-profit that helps to organize local trail race events.

VIRTUAL FISH OF HYNER RUN WATERSHED

WHERE: Online via Microsoft Teams

WHEN: Thursday, March 20 from 1-1:30 p.m.

NOTES: A virtual Fish of Hyner Run Watershed program at Hyner Run State Park is set to be held. This program will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams and will not take place face-to-face at the park.

Join the park naturalist and learn about the many different types of fish that inhabit Hyner Run Watershed. Afterward, we may have some time to share fish stories.

Registration is required to receive the link to the Microsoft Teams program. When you receive an email confirmation, please click on the link in the confirmation to make sure it opens properly prior to the program. Call or email if there are difficults registering at RA-NRSPLPIN-EE@pa.gov.

WOODCOCK IMPROMPTU FIELD TRIP

WHERE: Detailed directions will be given by email.

WHEN: TBD (scheduled for March)

NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for a spontaneous, impromptu outing that will showcase the spectacular mating display of woodcocks. Due to the nature of wildlife timing not being predictable, the date and time for this trip will be announced a few days befor ethe outing to our listserv email. CHAPTER MEETING

WHERE: Taber Museum in Williamsport (858 W. Fourth Street)

WHEN: Wednesday, March 26 at 6:30 p.m.

NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for the program “Your yard can be a good bird habitat,” presidented by Jim Green and Dorothy Holloway.

Learn what you can achieve by using native plants and reducing lawn to make your property a better habitat for birds, insects and other fauna and flora. The program is free and open to the public.

Day at RPANA

WHERE: Meet at the barn at 1722 Sylvan Dell Road

WHEN: Saturday, April 12 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NOTES: Volunteers are needed for a habitat enhancement project at Robert Porter Allen Natural Area to remove invasive plant species in grassland and wetland habitats.

Wear work clothes and closed-toe shoes.
