FREE BIRDING EVENTS

NOTES: Loyalsock Foundation is partnering with local bird enthusiasts and the Lycoming Audubon Society to deliver a series of birding walks and programs this summer. We invite the community to celebrate our winged friends at The Summit: Center for Wellness campus in Laporte.

SUMMER PICNIC

WHERE: Rider Park

WHEN: Wednesday, July 23 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

NOTES: Bring a dish to share and meet Lycoming Audubon friends for an evening of fellowship and refreshment. Don't forget your binoculars, there is bound to be some spontaneous birding too. Please RSVP to Ted Loy at meltel79@hotmail.com by July 20 and let him know what you are bringing so we can enable a great picnic and an enjoyable time.

SUMMER AMBIENCE

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 25 at 8 p.m. (Hyner Run) and Saturday, July 26 at 8 p.m. (Little Pine)

NOTES: Join the naturalist for a relaxing evening to hear summer ambience. Topics of discussion will center around what is being heard. This is designed to be an informal program.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines.

Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the boat launch. Please bring a lawn chair.

SOLAR VIEWING

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 25 at 3:30 p.m. (Hyner Run) and Saturday, July 26 at 3:30 p.m. (Little Pine)

NOTES: Join the naturalist at Little Pine State Park to do some solar viewing and learn things abiout most well-known star in our solar system: the sun. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate.

The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the beginning of the Lake Shore Trail at the top of dam. Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the CCC statue.

DEEP GREEN JOURNEY

YOGA BACKPACK

WHERE: See notes below.

WHEN: Saturday, July 26-Sunday, July 27

NOTES: Come join Deep Green Journey as we adventure into the forest with two wonderful practices to help us center, notice and open our hearts and minds. You need no prior experience in yoga or backpacking.

Melissa Madera will lead us in yoga practices along the trail and in camp as we settle in for a night and begin our day. All food and equipment is provided.

The cost is $275 per person. The group will meet Saturday, July 26 at 10 a.m. at Pine Grove Furnace State Park to distribute equipment and then travel to the trailhead.

BOBCATS

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 1 at 3:30 p.m. (Little Pine) and Saturday, Aug. 2 at 1 p.m. (Hyner Run)

NOTES: Join the environmental education specialist to learn about Pennsylvania's bobcats. This is designed to be an informal proram.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of sever eweather or new state or community guidelines.

Those interested in the Little Pine porgram should meet at the contact station near the campground. Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the pool.

SULLIVAN COUNTY

SUMMIT LOOP

WHERE: Summit Loop in Laporte

WHEN: Thursday, Aug. 14 from 6-8 p.m.

NOTES: This is the second field trip in collaboration with the Loyalsock Foundation in Sullivan County. This evening walk will again explore the Summit Trail. There are more than 70 acres adjacent to the Sullivan County School District that are being developed as a recreation area. Forested areas, rock ledges and a bog will offer a variety of habitats to look and listen for birds.

For directions on a GPS enter "Summit Loop, Laporte, PA." Take US Route 220 to Laporte and enter the borough US PA Route 42. Travel through town on Main Street, the entrance to the area is off Route 42 approximately 0.6 miles after the Sullivan County Courthouse. Watch for the sign on the left side of the road.

Those interested should meet at the parking area at the end of the driveway.
