Community Outdoors calendar for Week of Feb. 17

AUDUBON EVENT: COMMUNITY WORK DAY AT RPANA

WHERE: Robert Porter Allen Natural Area (meet at the ball field parking lot on East Mountain Avenue in South Williamsport)

WHEN: Sunday, Feb. 22 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

NOTES: Help Robert Porter Natural Area maintain existing planting areas, apply leaf mulch and cut invasive plants. Those interested should meet at the ball field parking at the east end of East Mountain Avenue in South Williamsport. Gloves, tools, snacks and water will be provided. Those interested should bring a smile and good work ethic.

AUDUBON EVENT: MONTHLY CHAPTER MEETING

WHERE: Taber Museum (858 W. Fourth Street, Williamsport)

WHEN: Wednesday, Feb. 25 at 6:30 p.m.

NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for our February chapter meeting at the Taber Museum. Meetings are free and open to the public.

This month will feature a pre-recorded webinar from Cornell. Cady Netland, coordinator for bird safety, discusses why glass is so dangerous to birds and shares some affordable, effective and visually non-interruptive solutions to prevent collisions.

Kim Savides, research support specialist, presents preliminary results from the study including information on which species are most at risk and factors around residences that increase strike risk. Then, Tina Phillips (assistant director, engagement in science and nature) and Olivia Sanderfoot (FeederWatch project leader) moderate a Q&A session with attendees and the presenters.
