Outdoors community calendar for week of March 24

VIRTUAL CCC

OF CLINTON COUNTY

WHERE: Virtually online via Microsoft Teams

WHEN: Tuesday, March 24 from 11-11:30 a.m.

NOTES: There will be a Virtual CCC of Clinton County program from Hyner Run State Park. This will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams and will not take place in person.

Did you know that Pennsylvania had the second largest amount of Civilian Conservation Corps camps out of any other state? Ten of them were in Clinton County, making it the county in Pennsylvania with the most CCC camps.

This program will look into some of the history of these CCC camps, a fitting theme for the 250th birthday of the nation.

Registration is required to receive the link to the Microsoft Teams program. When you receive an email confirmation, please click on the link in the confirmation to make sure it opens properly prior to the program.

AUDUBON EVENT:

MONTHLY CHAPTER

MEETING

WHERE: Taber Museum at 858 W. Fourth Street.

WHEN: Wednesday, March 25 at 6:30 p.m.

NOTES: Join the Lycoming Audubon Society for our March chapter meeting. It’s free and open to the public.

This month will feature a presentation entitled “The Red-tailed Hawk Project: What we need to learn about a common but incredible hawk.”

In this presentation, BRyce Robinson will outline the work of the Red-tailed Hawk Project, including many stories of surprising things the orking group has learned in their investigation into the unknowns of this common species.

Robinson is a postdoctoral researcher at the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, where his research focuses on the evoltuion of diversity in the red-tailed hawk.

NOTES: There will be a Virtual CCC of Lycoming COunty program from Little Pine State Park. Be advised this program will be held virtually via Microsoft Teams and will not take place in person.

FREE KIDS FISHING TOURNAMENT

WHERE: Clinger’s Bait and Tackle at 1566 Route 287 Highway in Jersey Shore

WHEN: Saturday, March 28, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

NOTES: The tournament is for kids up to the age of 15. There will be prizes for first, second and third for both boys and girls anglers. The rules are to fish any Pennsylvania stocked waters and follow all Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission rules and limits. The fish must be brought in to Clinger’s Bait and Tackle then to be measured by 5 p.m. In the event of a tie, the award will go to the first fish brought in.

BIRDWATCHING

FIELD TRIP

WHERE: Old Lycoming Township

WHEN: TBD. Will be an evening in March one hour before sunset. To be added to the listserv, email lycomingaudubon@gmail.com with “Listserv” in the subject line.

NOTES: A spontaneous, impromptu outing annoucned a day or two before the event. Come and listen, experience the spring treat of woodcock mating behavior. This audubon event is free and open to the public.

JOY TO THE

EARTH FAMILY FUN

WHERE: Selinsgrove Commons (2 N. Market Street, Selinsgrove)

WHEN: Saturday, April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NOTES: Children and adults alike can share the excitement at the fifth annual “Joy to the Earth” celebration in honor of Earth moth. The Susquehanna Valley Chapter of Citizens’ Climate Education hosts this free event on April 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Selinsgrove Commons.
