Outdoor community calendar for week of April 21

AUDUBON EVENT:

EARTH DAY WALK

WITH SUSQUEHANNA GREENWAY AT RPANA

WHERE: 721 E. Mountain Ave. in South Williamsport

WHEN: Wednesday, April 22 at 8 a.m.

NOTES: We will begin our Earth Day Celebrations with a Susquehanna Greenway partnered walk in this local preserved wetlands between Bald Eagle Mountain and the Susquehanna River. We will walk this gently rolling landscape and search for a variety of bird species as we also learn about the vision and ongoing work efforts for this special area.

AUDUBON EVENT: EARTH DAY OVER THE BRIDGE

WHERE: North side of the Susquehanna River Walk in Williamsport (by Wegmans)

WHEN: Wednesday, April 22 at 6 p.m.

NOTES: Fifty-six years ago, Earth Day was initiated as a national expression of appreciation for our planet. Join the Lycoming Audubon Society on the River Walk gathering on the north side near Wegmans by the river dam. Ample parking is available.

Look for Audubon signs. With signs and flags, we’ll walk clockwise, cross the Market Street Bridge, and back. Thanks for adding your presence in this simple statement of celebrating our beautiful Earth.

SPRING DISCOVERY BACKPACK

WHERE: Worlds End State Park/Loyalsock State Forest

WHEN: Friday, April 24-Sunday, April 26

NOTES: This is our first backpack trip of the year, a fantastic time to see what new life is emerging from winter’s grasp. Perhaps some early wildflowers? A warmbreeze blowing down the east branch of Double Run? Small sprigs of green emerging in unexpected places?

We shall go slowly, taking time to notice and discover spring’s small, early gifts along the way.

The total mileage for the trip is approximately 5-6 miles. We will be meeting at the Worlds End State Park visitor’s center and will explore Double Run and surrounding state forests where wildflowers and other signs of new life are in abundance.

The cost is $325 per person wtih all equipment and food provided.
