Discover the fascinating world of moths this Friday
Step into the wonderful world of moths with The Summit: Center for Wellness. This Friday at 9:30 p.m. at The Summit in Laporte there will be a free evening program dedicated to observing and learning about these remarkable nighttime insects.
Led by Cheryl Metcalf of the Tunbridge Conservation Commission in Vermont, this family-friendly event offers a unique opportunity to observe and learn about moths. Participants will have the chance to see moths up close and learn about their important role in local ecosystems.
Using a scientific technique known as light sheeting, participants will observe a variety of moth species attracted to a mercury vapor light and white viewing sheet.
To make the most of the evening, attendees are encouraged to bring a headlamp, cell phone or magnifying glass for viewing and photographing moths. Comfortable clothing is recommended, including a hooded long-sleeve shirt and long pants with cuffs.
Because the mercury vapor light can be bright, protective eyewear or blue light-blocking glasses are suggested.
The event is free and open to the public, and no registration is required. The Summit is located on Route 42 between Laporte and Eagles Mere.
