NOTES: Join the park naturalist and learn about the different types of trout of Hyner Run. Afterwards, we may have some time to share fish stories.

FIREFLIES

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

NOTES: Join the park naturalist to learn about fireflies and why they light up nature during this time of the year. All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

Those interested should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Please bring a lawn chair.

SMART FISHING

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 3 at 3:30 p.m.

NOTES: Have kids and want to introduce them to the sport of fishing? This SMART Fishing program is geared toward teaching others to be responsible anglers. All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate.

The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those interested should meet at the boat launch of Little Pine Reservoir.

LOCAL LORE

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 3 at 8 p.m.

NOTES: It’s the 250th birthday of America and on July 3, come out and learn about some of the local lore that contributed to the nation’s history, including but not limited to, the Fair Play Men, different towns in the area and the CCC.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be canceled or modified in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those interested should meet at the amphitheater.

HAPPENINGS AT HYNER

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Saturday, July 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NOTES: At Hyner Run State Park on July 18, join the park naturalist and guest speakers for a good late morning and afternoon of local history. There will be five programs dealing with the local history of the area:

• “CCC of Clinton County” is a program presented by Rich Wykoff, education and outreach administrator for Lumber Heritage Region, and will be a scavenger hunt-like approach to learning about the CCC Camp in Hyner Run State Park and others.

• “General history” of the Area is a program presented by Lou Bernard, overseer of adult services at Ross Library and local historian, and will be some of the interesting stories and folklore around the Hyner area.

• “Paper making” is a program presented by Lin Greenaway, forester of the Sproul State Forest, and will get into some quick history of paper making in the area while also demonstrating how to make paper now.

• “Logging” is a program presented by Jennifer Haines, museum education at Pennsylvania Logging Museum, and will be about the logging industry in the area and some of the tools used.

• “Branding Tree Cookies” is a program presented by Hyner Run campground hosts and will consist of branding a tree cookie for a memento to take home.

• “Artifacts” is a program presented by Rich Gulyas, environmental education specialist at Mount Pisgah State Park.

Feel free to come to all programs, or go to some and take a dip in the pool. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate in the program.

All the programs will be held in the lawn near the amphitheater by the pool. Some may be moved to Pavilion No. 1 in the case of rain.
