Outdoors community calendar for week of July 28

BLACK BEARS

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, July 31 at 4 p.m.

NOTES: Join the park naturalist at the table to learn more about the "Black Bears" around Pennsylvania. Topics will include adaptations, diet and a brief overview of the natural history of the black bear within Pennsylvania. This is designed to be an informal program.

Feel free to stop on in anytime between 4-5 p.m.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. The program may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. Those interested should meet at the contact station.

HYNER HAPPENINGS

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 1 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

NOTES: Join the naturalist and guest speakers for a good late morning and afternoon of local history. There will be five programs dealing with the local history of the area:

• CCC of Clinton County (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) program presented by Rich Wykoff, education and outreach administrator for Lumber Heritage Region, and will be a about the CCC Camp at Hyner Run and others.

• General history of the area (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will be some of the interesting stories and folklore around the Hyner area.

• Logging (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) will be about the logging industry in the area and some of the tools used.

• Branding tree cookies (11 a.m. to 3 p.m.) is presented by Hyner Run campground hosts and will consist of branding a tree cookie for a memento to take home.

• Artifacts (11 a.m. to 3 pm.)

Feel free to come to all programs or go to some and take a dip in the pool. All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate in the program. The program may be modified or cancelled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines. All programs will be held in the lawn near the amphitheater (by the pool).
