There's no denying it--the Susquehanna River is one of Pennsylvania's greatest natural treasures, offering endless opportunities for outdoor adventure. From paddling and fishing to hiking, biking, wildlife watching, and camping, more people than ever are discovering the beauty and recreation opportunities found along the Susquehanna Greenway.
But getting started can still feel overwhelming. Where should you go? What gear do you need? How can you safely explore a new outdoor activity?
That's where the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership comes in. As a nonprofit organization dedicated to connecting people with the outdoors, SGP provides the tools, resources, events, and educational opportunities that help communities explore and enjoy the Susquehanna Greenway.
This summer, that mission comes to life at the 5th Annual Susquehanna Greenway Outdoor Expo, taking place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Shikellamy State Park Marina in Sunbury.
Set at the scenic confluence of the North and West Branches of the Susquehanna River, the Outdoor Expo is the region's premier celebration of outdoor recreation. The free, family-friendly event brings together outdoor outfitters, conservation organizations, recreation clubs, educational partners, and local businesses for a day filled with hands-on experiences, demonstrations, learning opportunities, and outdoor fun.
Visitors can explore more than 50 exhibitors, discover new places to hike and paddle, test outdoor gear, connect with local experts, and learn about the many ways to enjoy Pennsylvania's great outdoors.
The Outdoor Expo offers something for every age and experience level. Whether you're a seasoned adventurer or simply looking for a new weekend activity, attendees can enjoy:
• Live wildlife presentations
• Free beginner paddling lessons on the water
• Outdoor skills activities
• Interactive exhibits and demonstrations
• Kids' activities and family-friendly games
• Pup comfort station (it's a dog-friendly event!)
• Live music throughout the day
• Food trucks and local vendors
• Outdoor recreation clubs and outfitters
• Prize raffles featuring outdoor-themed gear and experiences
Guests will also have opportunities to learn about hiking, cycling, fishing, camping, paddling, conservation, outdoor safety, and other recreational pursuits available throughout the Susquehanna Greenway and beyond.
What began as a small gathering of outdoor enthusiasts has grown into one of the region's largest outdoor recreation events. In 2025, the Outdoor Expo welcomed more than 3,000 attendees, and organizers expect an even bigger celebration as the event marks its fifth anniversary in 2026.
"When we hosted the first Outdoor Expo five years ago, we hoped it would help connect people with the incredible outdoor opportunities available along the Susquehanna," said Alana Jajko, Executive Director of the Susquehanna Greenway Partnership.
