CCC OF HYNER RUN

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. (Hyner Run) and Saturday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. (Little Pine)

NOTES: Join the park naturalist and learn about the work the CCC of Hyner Run did in the 1930s and 1940s in the area, the culture in the CCC camps and how the CCC prepared some of the well-disciplined World War II veterans.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Please bring a lawn chair. Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the amphitheater.

AFTERNOON BIRDING

ON LAKE SHORE TRAIL

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 22 at 3:30 p.m.

NOTES: Join the naturalist for some afternoon birding on Lake Shore Trail. Topics will include the different birds that live at Little Pine and how to identify them. A limited number of binoculars will be on hand. Please bring any other birding gear if desired.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Meet at the beginning of the Lake Shore Trail by the kiosk at dam.

INSECT SAFARI

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park and Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 28 at 3:30 p.m. (Hyner Run) and Saturday, Aug. 29 at 3:30 p.m. (Little Pine)

NOTES: Join the park naturalist and learn some of the characteristics of an insect and go on a little insect safari. There will be a craft.

This program is intended for children, but anyone is free to attend. All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new community guidelines.

Those interested in the Hyner Run program should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Those interested in the Little Pine program should meet at the amphitheater.

LUMBERING OF HYNER

WHERE: Hyner Run State Park

WHEN: Friday, Aug. 28 at 8 p.m.

NOTES: Step back into time and experience the culture of the lumbermen in the late 1800s and the lumbering of Hyner. Topics will include the local history and prehistory of the area, the different developments made in the era, and the results at the end of the era.

All children must be accompanied by an adult to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe eather or new state or community guidelines.

Those interested should meet at the amphitheater by the pool. Please bring lawnchairs.

LOGGING OF

LITTLE PINE VALLEY

WHERE: Little Pine State Park

WHEN: Saturday, Aug. 29 at 8 p.m.

NOTES: Step back into time and experience the culture of the lumbermen in the late 1800s and the logging of Little Pine Valley. Topics will include the local history and prehistory of the area, the different developments made in the era, and the results at the end of the era.

All children must be accompanied by an adult in order to participate. The program may be modified or canceled in the event of severe weather or new state or community guidelines.

Those interested should meet at the amphitheater.

HIKE FOR VISUALLY

IMPAIRED/BLIND

WHERE: Miller Trail at Loyalsock State Forest

WHEN: Wednesday, Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

NOTES: Step into the wild with confidence and connection on this woods designated specifically for individuals who are visually impaired or blind. With trained human guides supporting participants, we will walk slowly and thoughtfully, exploring the Miller Trail in Loyalsock State Forest.

This is a grassy trail with gentle, level terrain leading on an end-to-end hike through the early fall meadows and woodlands. Transportation to and from the trailhead is available upon request. Detailed directions and an audio description of the trail will be sent upon registration.

13TH VISTAS AND FALLS BACKPACK

WHERE: Worlds End State Park/Loyalsock Trail

WHEN: Friday, Sept. 11 through Sunday, Sept. 13

NOTES: This is one of our favorite hikes in Pennsylvania. It encompasses sweeping vistas of the Loyalsock Valley and hidden waterfalls along the Ketchum Run Gorge, all in a five-mile loop. The waterfalls on Ketchum Run in the Loyalsock State Forest -- some known, some hidden away off trail -- are a wonder to see.

This backpacking adventure is appropriate for beginning backpackers or anyone who would like to come and experience a beautiful late-summer trip. All food and equipment is included. We will gather Friday (Sept. 11) at Worlds End State Park group tenting area, then Saturday and Sunday will hike and camp on the trail.

BACKPACKING FOR

VISUALLY IMPAIRED/BLIND

WHERE: Miller Trail at Loyalsock State Forest

WHEN: Tuesday, Sept. 22 to Wednesday, Sept. 23

NOTES: Step into the wild with confidence and connection on this overnight backpacking adventure, designed especially for individuals who are visually impaired. With trained human guides supporting participants, we will walk slowly and thoughtfully, exploring gentle, level terrain with senses wide open to our surroundings. We provide all gear, meals and a warm, welcoming atmosphere where safety and belonging come first.

We will be backpacking on the Miller Trail in the Loyalscok State Forest, exploring just a one-half mile of this level, grassy trail to our campsite next to the beautiful Hessler branch (stream). We will have assistance for navigating the trail and camp set up.

Enjoy an evening in the forest where we will enjoy a meal and time around the campfire. Each person will have an individual tent.

Before we hit the trail, join us for a pre-trip Zoom session to meet your guides, ask questions and get excited. Whether you're new to backpacking or a seasoned explorer, this journey is crafted to empower, uplift and inspire. The cost for this trip is reduced to $125 per person.
