Program on Loyalsock Creek improvements being held

By From staff reports 2 min read

The Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited invites the public to an important program on improvements being made on upper Loyalsock Creek to remediate the impacts of past coal mining pollution.

The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Nov. 11, at 7 p.m. at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church at 807 W. Fourth Street in Williamsport. Parking and entrance to the church meeting room is at the rear of the building with access off of Campbell Street.

Tom Clark, project development manager in the Abandoned Mine Drainage Program at Kleinfelder, State College, will discuss the recently completed redesign of the White Ash AMD passive treatment facility in the headwaters of Loyalscok Creek, near Lopez.

The goals for the new treatment design will include ways to lower treatment temperatures in order to enhance the cold water fishery of Loyalsock Creek and its ability to provide cold water refuge for trout during hot summer months.

Prior to his current work at Kleinfelder, Clark was the mine drainage program manager at the Susquehanna River Basin Commission for 16 years.

In addition to the program, the Susquehanna TU Chapter will also be presenting its annual meeting report on the past year's accomplishments, goals for the coming year, and election of officers and open directors positions.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. More information can be found at the Susquehanna Chapter of Trout Unlimited's website.
