HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania pheasant hunters again will be getting a pleasant surprise for the season’s final weeks. For the second consecutive year, the Pennsylvania Game Commission will be releasing approximately 8,400 pheasants, mostly hens, to provide additional hunting recreation in the last two weeks of pheasant season, which runs through Feb. 28. “The Game Commission purchases the pheasant chicks raised on our game farms from a private-sector supplier,” said Wildlife Operations Division Chief Ian Gregg. “During the 2024 and 2025 production seasons, we requested our ...

CWD seminar is scheduled for March

A free seminar on Chronic Wasting Disease is scheduled at Penn College for March 28 with speaker Marcelo Jorge, a University of Georgia researcher and professor of wildlife habitat management. The event is on March 28 at 1 p.m. at the Klump Academic Center on Penn College’s campus and admission is free. The event will have a discussion on CWD and how it impacts our deer herds and lessons learned from a five-year field study testing over 400 deer.

The Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission to be featured at an upcoming Trout Unlimited Susquehanna Chapter Meeting regarding “20 Years of Stream Habitat Improvement.” The meeting will be held on Wednesday, Feb. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Covenant Central Presbyterian Church, 807 West Fourth Street in Williamsport.
