With the wind we experienced last week, most of the deciduous trees lost their leaves. However there are some oaks and young beech trees that will hang onto their leaves for a while. Campfires will be temporarily prohibited on state game lands

HARRISBURG — With much of Pennsylvania abnormally dry, and wildfires impacting many areas, the Pennsylvania Game Commission is temporarily prohibiting the building of fires on state game lands. While camping on state game lands is prohibited, regulations allow game lands users to build small fires for cooking or warming purposes. However, the regulation authorizes the Game Commission’s executive director to restrict otherwise-permitted activity when the threat of forest fire exists. The Pennsylvania Game Commission has issued an advisory for motorists to slow down and stay alert due to the deer becoming increasingly active. Daylight saving time ending on Saturday caused an increase in vehicular traffic between dusk and dawn, which coincides with the peak hours for deer activity. Deer become more active in autumn with the lead-up to their fall breeding season, which is commonly referred to as the rut.
