Reflections in Nature: A look at the good, and bad, fathers in the animal kingdom
On Sunday, June 21, we will celebrate Father’s Day. The idea of Father’s Day was conceived by Sonora Dodd of Spokane, Washington. After listening to a Mother’s Day sermon, Dodd decided to have a special day to honor her father, William Smart, who was a Civil War veteran. Smart was a widower and raised his six motherless children on the family farm. A day in June was chosen for the first Father’s Day celebration.
