Fire breaks out in vacant home
A fire broke out at a vacant South Williamsport home at 520 Hastings St., about 4:40 p.m. Monday. The scene was just across the street from the borough’s main firehouse. Firefighters from the borough, the city, Loyalsock Township, Montoursville, DuBoistown and Nisbet responded to the fire, which was declared under control in a little more than 30 minutes. Traffic on Route 15 North into the borough was detoured around the scene. It was believed that one fireman was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport to be evaluated for an unknown condition. The property owner’s name was not available Monday night. In another incident, two vehicles collided head-on in the 100 block of Old Cemetery Road in Gamble Township, about 10 minutes before the house fire. There were no reports of any serious injuries in the crash.
