ICU patient allegedly broke nurse’s hand

While Lamar Allen Strothers, 41, of 47 Washington Blvd., was in the UPMC Williamsport ICU Oct. 3, he allegedly squeezed a nurse’s hand hard enough to break her scaphoid and tear ligaments, according to city police. Strothers, who arresting officer Gino Caschera said had been in the ICU for a few days before allegedly becoming aggressive, is charged with aggravated assault and simple assault. Strothers was arraigned by judge Aaron Biichle Dec. 8 and released on $25,000 bail, and will appear before Biichle on Jan. 7.

Lewisburg woman arraigned for March DUI

Hydia Shavers, 35, of Lewisburg, is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol by state police on March 15 at 2 p.m. Trooper Paul Beard alleged in an affidavit he detected a strong odor of alcohol and that Shaver’s eyes were glassy and bloodshot when he conducted a traffic stop on Shavers’ Pontiac Sedan on Washington Boulevard. Beard alleged Shavers, after taking a sobriety test, demonstrated signs of impairment, and that she allegedly said she could not afford another DUI. Shavers was arraigned before judge Aaron Biichle Dec. 10, and was released on $5,000 bail. She waived her preliminary hearing.

Woman allegedly punched EMT en route to hospital

Christina Wagoner, 41, of 716 Market St., was being treated for unknown injuries in an ambulance on Oct. 5 when she allegedly punched at an EMT multiple times, city police said. Officer Gino Caschera said he “observed redness” on the EMT’s collar bone when he arrived at the emergency room entrance. Wagoner was arraigned by judge Aaron Biichle Dec. 8 and released on $25,000 bail, and is scheduled to appear before Biichle again for a preliminary hearing Dec. 17.

City woman accused of calling in false fire

Devin Hoffman, 35, of 326 Bridge St., Apt 4, allegedly made a false report of a house fire to get back at her neighbors on Oct. 10 at around 9 p.m., city police said. According to Michael Corter, a city police officer, Hoffman’s neighbors were having a charcoal fire outside 20 feet away from the apartment building. “Hoffman [knowingly] reported the fire due to residents giving her a hard time having a guest over at her apartment,” Corter said in the affidavit. Hoffman is accused of falsely alarming public safety agencies, making false reports to law enforcement agencies and disorderly conduct. She was arraigned by judge Aaron Biichle on Dec. 10, and waived her preliminary hearing.

Hallucinating man assaulted police, city officer alleges

A city man took a trip to UPMC Susquehanna after police allegedly found him hallucinating in his home.

Darrel Carter, 25, of 347 Rural Ave., Williamsport, allegedly committed a series of crimes around 9 p.m. the evening of Dec. 4 according to arresting officer Thad Trafford.

When police arrived at the scene, Carter’s mother said she believed Carter had taken something, and had been hallucinating for the past half hour, police said. According to Trafford, Carter was displaying signs of using PCP.

“I observed Carter uttering phrases that made little to no sense. Carter believed he was the ‘black Jesus’ and that [angels] were performing oral sex on him,” Trafford wrote in an affidavit.

EMS arrived and Carter sat down on a chair inside the ambulance. At that point, Carter exposed his genitalia and began to grope himself, according to Trafford. Next, Trafford said Carter allegedly grabbed a female city police officer in the groin, at which point Trafford placed him under arrest. Carter allegedly resisted and told police to “get off him.”

After police placed Carter in handcuffs, they transported him to UPMC for further treatment, the affidavit said.

Carter is charged with aggravated assault, indecent exposure, indecent assault, simple assault, open lewdness, resisting arrest and disorderly conduct. Carter appeared before a preliminary hearing with judge Aaron Biichle last Thursday, and is being held in the Lycoming County Prison with bail set at $25,000.
