District judges busy handling wide range of criminal cases

State prison inmate charged with assault

While corrections officers were attempting to restrain Keira Blunt, an inmate at the state Correctional Institution at Muncy, the 35-year-old woman kicked one of the officers and said “I’m going to spit on you, bi——,” state Trooper Brian Siebert alleged in an affidavit.

“I’ll bite your (expletive) face off,” Blunt, of Reading, told the officers as they worked to get her under control on the afternoon of Oct. 11.

“Lucky I’m strapped up or I’d have knocked all your (expletive) out,” Blunt told the officers once they got her under control, Siebert said. The officers had to place “a spit hood” over her after she started spitting, the trooper said.

Blunt has been arraigned before District Judge Jon Kemp on felony charges of aggravated assault and aggravated harassment by prisoner as well as simple assault, a misdemeanor.

She remains behind bars in lieu of $25,000 bail.

In another incident at the Clinton Township jail on Route 405, Aleta Bell, 51, of Harrisburg, has been charged by state police with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after an officer discovered the controlled substance in her private area as she was being committed to the facility on Oct. 20.

She waived her preliminary hearing and remains jailed in lieu of $15,000 bail. There was no information on why she was being incarcerated in the first place.

Fugitive’s attempted escape fails

When state troopers began pounding on his front door in Upper Fairfield Township on Sept. 26, Robert Martinez refused to come out.

All of sudden the 43-year-old man jumped out his kitchen window and took off running, but the troopers took off after him and quickly apprehended him. They were at Martinez’s home at 45 Back St., lot 13, to take into custody on felony drug charges.

Martinez now faces additional charges of flight to avoid apprehension, obstructing the administration of law, false identification of law enforcement and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Following his arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman, he was jailed in lieu of $10,000 bail. He was recently held for court on these charges following a preliminary hearing.

Mifflin Township man allegedly stole dog and then returned it

Eric Brown, 29, of 241 Main St., Salladasburg, faces charges for breaking into a woman’s Mifflin Township home and stealing her dog on Dec. 2, state Trooper Jacob Sukal alleged in an affidavit.

Brown returned the pet to its owner, Ashley Taylor, police said, one day after forcing his way into her home at 1540 Hensler Road, Sukal said.

Following his arraignment before Kemp on charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief, Brown was released on $25,000 bail.

Shilo Diggs, 43, of 934 High St., has been charged with the misdemeanor of abusing the 911 system for an incident at his home on Aug. 28, city police said.

Police allege Diggs “called 911 multiple times, claiming another man was involved in a ‘shots fired’ call” when he knew very well that the individual was not at all involved. He is free on $2,500 bail.

Woman allegedly tried to run over boyfriend

Ellexus Walker called city police on Aug. 30 to the 2100 block of Boyd St to report that her boyfriend Donteze Morris would not return a cellphone that she claimed was hers.

However, in the end, it was the 19-year-old city woman who ended up being charged, according to court records filed at the office of District Judge Christian Frey.

Police said that during the course of their investigation in which they interviewed the boyfriend and a neighbor, they learned that Walker, of 315 Center St., allegedly attempted to run over Morris with her car in a nearby alley. Morris said he jumped into some bushes in order to avoid being struck, police said.

Charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment, Walker has been sent a summons to appear before Frey.
