Loyalsock Township man accused in theft
Joshua Lewis, 20, of 1414 Elwood Road, has been charged with theft, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia after he was caught allegedly with a stolen bicycle in the 100 block of Maynard Street about 8:15 p.m. on May 25, city police said.
The bike had been taken from the 100 block of West Church Street, police said. Lewis had a bag of marijuana on him, police added. The identity of the bicycle owner was not listed in court papers. Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Christian Frey, he was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.
Five people charged with DUI
As soon as Crystal Applegate lowered the driver's side window, the state trooper immediately detected an odor of alcohol coming from the car, according to court records. Applegate, 48, of 178 Cemetery St., Hughesville, was driving a 2018 Subaru Legacy when she was stopped for speeding on Interstate 180 in the city about 4:40 p.m. on Sept. 5. She admitted to having a "few beers," police said. Charged with DUI, speeding and careless driving, Applegate had a blood-alcohol content level .21. This was her second DUI charge. She is free on $5,000 bail.
A blood test confirmed motorist Kermit Williams III, 64, of 640 Second Ave., had xanax and two other drugs in his system when his 2014 Nisson Sentra struck a parked car in the 1400 block of West Fourth Street about 3:50 p.m. on Aug. 3, city police said. Charged with DUI of controlled substances and careless driving, Williams has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
Dawanda Dority-Nixon, 26, of Williamsport, was stopped by the county's DUI Task Force in the area of West Third Street and Government Place after she ran a stop sign about 1:45 a.m. on Aug. 29. She refused to provide a blood sample. Charged with DUI and driving with a suspended license, she has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
When motorist Kenneth Stas, 23, of Whitney, Westmoreland County, was stopped by members of the county's DUI Task at West Third and Susquehanna streets in the city about 1:30 a.m. on July 24, he readily admitted that he had consumed a six pack of beer in the last four hours, according to court records. The admission came after the officers detected "a strong odor of alcohol beverage" coming from the man's breath. Charged with DUI and sent a summons to appear before a district judge, Stas had a blood-alcohol content level of .14, court records stated.
A blood test confirmed that Norman Jones, 55, of 341 Academy St., apartment 3, had marijuana and two other drugs in his system when a state trooper stopped his car near Fifth Avenue and Isabella Street in the city for failing to use a turn signal about 8:50 p.m. on May 13. according to court records. Charged with DUI of controlled substances he has been sent a summons to appear a district judge.
Five people face a variety of drug charges
Jerry Jennings, 32, of 617 Trenton Place, has been charged with multiple felony drug offenses for allegedly selling crack cocaine out of his home to an informant or undercover cover officer on several occasions between July 16 and Nov. 24, according to court records filed by the county's Narcotics Enforcement Unit.
Charged with six counts of conspiracy to possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and three counts of illegal use of a cellphone, Jennings has been jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail following his arraignment before Judge Jon Kemp.
Another alleged drug dealer, Blake McEwen, 37, formerly of Lloyd Street now homeless, has been charged by state police with delivery of 25 bags of fentanyl, possession of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia at Seventh Avenue and Isabella Court on July 8. Following his arraignment before Kemp, he was jailed in lieu of $90,000 bail.
Melissa Spitler, 47, of 1123 Louisa St., has been charged with possession of crack cocaine, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 600 block of Rose Street on Oct. 26, city police said. She has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
Sherry Flexer, 41, of 1135 Yorktown Road, Roaring Branch, has been charged by city police with possession of four envelopes of fentanyl and possession of drug paraphernalia in the 2300 block of West Fourth Street about 9:45 p.m. on Oct. 19. She has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
Samuel Guthrie, 26, of 1139 Diggan Road, Muncy, has been charged with possessing a bag of cocaine and marijuana as well as possession of drug paraphernalia in the 1900 block of West Fourth St. on Aug. 17, city police said. He has been sent a summons to appear before a district judge.
Woman faces felony theft charges
Sameerah Graham, 38, of 630 1/2 Cemetery St., has been charged with felony insurance fraud and attempted theft by deception for allegedly filing a bogus accident claim with Progressive Insurance on May 20, according to an affidavit filed by the state Attorney General's Office.
Investigators allege that Graham submitted false information on a claim in which she reported that her 2012 Honda Civic was damaged when it struck a deer on Warrensville Road in Loyalsock Township while she was on her way home from work on May 20.
It turned out that she did not work on May 20 and investigators allege that the damage to her car occurred weeks before May 20, court records state. Following her arraignment before Frey, Graham was released on $25,000 bail. She has since waived her preliminary hearing.
