Autopsy on child allegedly killed by mother completed

The Lycoming County coroner has completed an autopsy of the 5-month-old child who was allegedly stabbed in the neck by her mother.

However, because the investigation into the death of Cailani Faltz is still ongoing, the coroner could not release many details to the public.

“The results of the autopsy are pending further testing and investigation into the cause and manner of the infant,” Kiessling said in a news release sent Saturday evening.

This statement comes after the coroner completed an autopsy of Faltz at Forensic Pathology Associates in Allentown.

Corrie Cowlay-Saunders, 22, of 344 Adams St., was charged with criminal homicide alongside attempted homicide for allegedly killing 5-month-old Faltz and allegedly stabbing Faltz’ father, Cordell Faltz, in the neck and jaw.

Laura Kitko, a city police agent who is investigating the incident, said in her report that evidence of injuries on the child’s neck and throat area were present.

On her way to UPMC Susquehanna to be treated for injuries sustained in a subsequent vehicle crash, Cowlay-Saunders allegedly uttered spontaneous statements such as “I killed my baby” and “I killed my daughter,” according to Kitko.

Cowlay-Saunders was denied bail and is being held in the Lycoming County Prison until her preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle on Jan. 21.

According to the news release sent by Kiessling, city police and the coroner’s office will release details as they become available.
