City man charged in connection with January shooting
As Nichole Gillard and ex-boyfriend Darren Donnell Brown fought with one another in Gillard's apartment, Brown suddenly fired the gun he had in his hand in close proximity to her head, city police alleged in a court document
Although no one was hurt in the shooting that occurred at the Timberland Apartments, 750 W. Edwin St., on the afternoon of Jan. 9, the gunfire caused Gillard's ears to ring, police said.
Brown, 30, of 331 Center St., fled the scene before police arrived, but he has since been arrested and taken into custody on felony and misdemeanor charges, including aggravated assault and carrying a firearm without license, police said.
Brown showed up uninvited at Gillard's apartment just before 2 p.m., police said, adding that he allegedly kicked in the front door when no one answered.
He started to make his way to the second floor, where Gillard, a male acquaintance and two children were in bedroom, police said.
Gillard pushed Brown down the stairs, and ordered him several times to leave, police said. She managed to pushed him out the front door, but he managed to get back in and started hitting her with the butt of a handgun he pulled from his waist, police alleged.
Moments later, the gun went off and Brown fled, police said. "A single spent casing was found on the floor, and a bullet was recovered from an interior wall," an officer said in affidavit.
In addition to the assault and firearms charges, Brown also was arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey on felony burglary, felony trespassing, recklessly endangering, possession of an instrument of crime and criminal mischief. Arraigned before District Judge Christian Frey, Brown remains jailed in the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $250,000 bail.
Charges filed due to alleged assaults
Kyle Beck, 28, of 918 Diamond St., jailed on charges of allegedly assaulting Madeline Dincher, his now ex-fiancee, on various occasions in the last three years, city police said.
In one incident that took place in late February or early March, Beck put the woman in a chokehold, "obstructing her breathing and then slammed her head into the floor. Dincher said her vision turned into a white light before she lost consciousness," an officer alleged in an affidavit.
On Valentine's Day, Beck threatened to kill Dincher and her family by burning down her mother's house," police alleged in the court document.
In the spring of 2019, while Dincher was driving, Beck, sitting next to her, began punching her, police alleged. "I can kill us all. I can kill the three of us," Beck told her as he tried to grab the steering wheel from her, police said. A child also was in the vehicle at the time, police said.
Beck was arraigned last week before Frey on charges of strangulation, aggravated and simple assault, terroristic threats and harassment. He remains jailed in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Loyalsock Township man charged following disturbance
Robert Reserve, 30, of 320 Pennsylvania Ave., faces charges of indecent assault, disorderly conduct and five counts of harassment following a disturbance inside the Olive Garden, 1825 E. Third St., on Feb. 13, state police said.
Police allege Reserve harassed five employees there and put one in a headlock, according to court records. Reserve "smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage," police said.
Following his recent arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman, Reserve was released on $5,000 bail.
Additional charges lodged against Jersey Shore area man
More charges were filed last week against Sheldon Spotts, 32, of 343 Old Route 220, lot 8, Jersey Shore, according to court records filed at the office of District Judge Jerry Lepley.
Spotts has been charged with possession of marijuana and bath salts as well as possession of drug paraphernalia after "a large amount of paraphernalia and narcotics" were found in his home while a county supervised bail officer was conducting a surprised visit to his mobile home on March 31, according to court records.
At the time, Spotts was out on $90,000 bail when the drugs were discovered, court records stated. Inside the home, Tiadaghton Valley Regional police seized eight grams of marijuana and a rock of bath salts. Following his arraignment on the new charges, Spotts was released on an additional $15,000 bail.
The $90,000 bail case stems from his alleged involvement in the assault of a Picture Rocks area couple who were brutally beaten after four men broke into their home on Yeagle Road in Wolf Township back in early July 2016.
In another drug case, Zachary Tagliaboski, 20, of 91 O'dell Road, Muncy, has been charged by state police with possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia for an incident at his home on Dec. 15, state police said. He is free on $5,000 bail.
Waterville man allegedly threatened sister
Michael Welch, 40, of 84 Second St., Waterville, has been charged with terroristic threats and harassment after allegedly leaving threatening messages on his sister's phone on April 11, according to state police.
In one message, Welch threatened to burn down his sister's home, police alleged. The incidents occurred on First Fork Road in Mifflin Township, police said. Initially jailed, Welch is free on $35,000 bail.
Limestone Township man charged
Heath Popolow, 41, of 10201 Route 44 South, has been charged by state police with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct following an incident outside his Limestone Township home about 9:50 a.m. on March 23.
State troopers were dispatched to assist an ambulance crew with a patient, Popolow, and when they arrived, they found him sitting in the driver's seat of a car. He claimed to have taken 100 pills of a medication prescribed to him, but he refused to be evaluated medically. He suddenly got up and started running, but soon fell, police said, adding that he then struggled with two troopers. He has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge Jerry C. Lepley.
Man jailed on assault charges
When state troopers arrived at 140 Bittner Park Road in Lewis Township about 11 p.m. on April 18, they saw the laceration about a woman's left eye, according to court record. The laceration was swollen and bleeding, police said.
Steven Wagner, 61, of the same address, has been charged with simple assault and harassment for allegedly striking the woman in the face with a broken walking stick, police said. The woman's identity was not released.
Following his arraignment before Lepley, Wagner was jailed in lieu of $5,000 bail.
