Police pursuit ends in crash
During a police pursuit, a male teenager driving a car at a high rate of speed — along with two female minors in the vehicle — escaped serious injuries early Sunday morning when the vehicle plowed into a tree and overturned on Route 44 near the Limestone-Washington township line.
“The tree was embedded into the car,” Nippenose Valley Fire Chief Dean Miller said.
All three occupants were already out of the car when firefighters arrived on the scene. It was unknown if they self-extricated or were helped out of the vehicle by the officer that was pursuing them.
The crash occurred about 1 a.m. All three minors, who reported they were wearing seat belts, were taken by ambulance to Geisinger Jersey Shore Hospital. Firefighters from Nippenose Valley and Washington Township were on the scene for nearly 90 minutes. No details about the pursuit were available Sunday night.
In another crash, a motorcyclist was injured when he struck a deer in the 5500 block of Wallis Run Road in Gamble Township about 8:40 a.m. Sunday, according to Plunketts Creek fire officials. He was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport. State police were investigating the crash, but no details were available Sunday night.
State police still was no information Sunday night on the identity of a motorcyclist who crashed Thursday night in the 2700 block of North Pine Run Road in Woodward Township. He was flown to a trauma center.
