Drivers identified in Friday’s fiery crash near Muncy

MUNCY — The drivers involved in Friday’s fiery crash have been identified as Chester Swank, 33, of Muncy, who was driving a pickup truck, and Sherman Harden, 45, also of Muncy, who was operating a Ford Edge when their vehicles collided on the bridge over Muncy Creek on John Brady Drive about 6:40 p.m., according to state police.

Swank was heading north when his truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with Harden’s vehicle, police said Tuesday night. Swank’s truck went airborne and caught fire shortly after landing below the bridge, according to investigators.

Passerby Jeremy Hanaway stopped and pulled Swank and a 4-year-old boy from the truck. The driver and the child were flown to Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where Swank was listed in critical condition on Tuesday night, a nursing supervisor said. Since police do not release the names of minors involved in crashes, there was no way to get any information about the child’s medical condition.

Harden was taken by ambulance to UPMC Williamsport, where he was treated for his injuries, police said.
