Fire destroys Columbia County barn

UNITYVILLE — It was believed that three horses perished while others safely escaped a barn fire Monday afternoon along Wolf House Hollow Road, about three miles east of here, according to Unityville Assistant Fire Chief George Long.

The one-story 40×50-foot long structure at 901 Wolf House Hollow Road in Columbia County’s Pine Township was engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene about 1:40 p.m., Long said, adding that smoke from the blaze was visible from as far as 5 miles away. There were no reports of injuries.

The name of the property owner was not available. Firefighters from Unityville, Benton, Millville and Lairdsville battled the blaze for at least two hours.
