DuBoistown man faces felony firearm charges
Convicted felon and DuBoistown resident John Stephen Epps Jr. is back behind bars after he attempted to sell a handgun to an informant on Pine Street in the city earlier this week, South Williamsport police alleged in an affidavit. Before the sale actually occurred late Monday afternoon, police intercepted Epps, 32, and took him into custody on felony charges of convicted felon not to possess a firearm, carrying a firearm without a license and a misdemeanor charge of attempted illegal sale of a firearm, according to court records. Epps, of 120 Edgewood Ave., had with him a backpack and in it were a handgun wrapped in a pillowcase with two magazines that were loaded with 25 rounds of ammunition," the affidavit stated. Following his arraignment before District Judge Denise Dieter, Epps was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $35,000 bail.
Convicted sex offender arrested yet again
Coty Lee Quiggle, 26, a convicted sex offender who has repeatedly failed to update state police about his address, is once again locked up on felony charges of failing to register a new address and failure to be photographed, according to court records. Quiggle failed to report to state police when he stayed three to four days with his girlfriend at her apartment at 653 Hepburn St. in the city in late August, court records stated. In mid-August, when Quiggle was released from the state Correctional Institution, he was to report to the Harrisburg Community Corrections Center by Aug. 29, but failed to do so, investigators said, adding a bench warrant for his arrest was filed. He was taken into custody on Sept. 5, arraigned on the felony charges before District Judge Christian Frey and has been jailed since in lieu of $75,000 bail. "This was the fourth time Quiggle allegedly failed to register," police said.
Hughesville woman charged with shoplifting
Using her shopper's card, Linda Sue Myers, 69, of 78 N. Main St., apartment 4, Hughesville stole $418 worth of merchandise from the Weis Store at 1272 E. Penn St. in Muncy Creek Township between May 25 and July 21, state police alleged in an affidavit filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner. She has since waived her preliminary hearing on charged of misdemeanor shoplifting and receiving stolen property, and is free on $5,000 bail.
Motorcyclist charged with fleeing police
Jarrett Charles Dunkle, 20, of 2079 Whitford Ave., South Williamsport, faces charges of fleeing police and six summary violations, including driving without a license, following a lengthy pursuit he had with Hughesville police while operating a motorcycle about 5:45 p.m. on May 13, according to court records filed at the office of District Judge Kirsten Gardner's office. The pursuit began near Second and Water streets in Hughesville and continued on Route 220 to Middle Road and back on Route 220 before turning onto Interstate 180 West, where the officer ended his involvement in the pursuit, court records stated. The officer said the motorcycle was registered to Dunkle, who later admitted his involvement in the pursuit, telling police "The only reason I took off is because I didn't know if the officer had a warrant (for me) out of North Carolina, and I didn't want to sit in the county prison," court records stated. Following his arraignment, Dunkle was released on $5,000 bail.
City teen charged with hit-run
Nyre Mobley, 19, of 124 Brandon Place, apartment 21, has been charged with accidents involving damage to attended vehicle (hit-run) and two summary violations, including driving without a license, stemming from a crash that occurred when his southbound SUV pulled in front of a northbound motorcyclist, causing both vehicles to collide in the 1900 block of Lycoming Creek Road about 9:20 p.m. on Aug. 21, according to Lycoming Regional police. Mobley stopped and asked the cyclist if he was injured, police said. The cyclist, who was not hurt, yelled at Mobley, telling him to "Get away from me," and to pull into the nearby parking lot and await the arrival of police.
Mobley did just that, but after a few minutes, he drove away, police alleged. Witnesses obtained the van's license plate, police added. Mobley did return to the scene, telling officers that he was on an errand to pick up cookies for his girlfriend when the crash occurred. He told police that the motorcyclist "was getting aggressive so he left (and) because the man told him to leave," an affidavit filed with the charges stated. Mobley has been sent a summons to appear before District Judge William Solomon.
Jersey Mills woman faces second set of charges
While she waived her preliminary hearing on a felony shoplifting charge, Sarah Light, 41, of 141 Hocker Lane, Jersey Mills, faces additional charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after she was found to have a small amount of marijuana on her on Route 44 in Watson Township on Aug. 22, court records filed by Lycoming Regional police stated. She was sent a summons to appear before Dieter on the drugs charges. In the other Lycoming Regional police case, Light is free on $15,000 bail that was ordered by Dieter. In that case, Light, who already has three shoplifting convictions, is accused of taking $143 worth of merchandise from the Weis store in Jersey Shore on July 31, it was alleged in an affidavit.
3 charged with drug offenses in separate cases
Alfonso Thomas Harrell, aka "A-Money," has been jailed on charges after he sold a total 32 bags of fentanyl to an undercover detective assigned to the county's Narcotics Enforcement Unit (NEU) during span of three controlled buys between May 31 and June 7, according to court records at Frey's office. Arraigned on three counts each of delivery of a controlled substance and illegal use of cellphone, Harrell, 51, of Harrisburg, was held for court on all charges following his preliminary hearing and remains incarcerated in lieu of $50,000 bail.
In another NEU case, David Trice, 64, of 919 W. Mountain Ave., South Williamsport, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance (crack cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia on Arch Street in the city on April 25. He has been sent a summons to appear before Frey.
In another case, Lycoming Regional police have charged Andrew J. Sauers, 36, of 1440 Walnut St., has been charged with possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia after they discovered 1.5 grams of methamphetamine in his apartment while they were executing a search warrant on Sept. 8, according to an affidavit. Following his arraignment before Dieter, he was released on $15,000 bail.
