Four charged with shoplifting in separate cases
Melissa Irene Chapman, 39, of Renovo, has been charged with felony shoplifting after she was caught trying to steal $270 worth of merchandise from Walmart, 1015 Loyalsock Ave., Montoursville, about 3 p.m. on Aug. 23, borough police alleged in an affidavit. Following her arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman, Chapman, who already has two shoplifting convictions, was initially jailed in the Lycoming County Prison, but has since been released on $5,000 bail.
In another case, state police allege that Vernon L. Daniels, 60, of 7 Ross St., stolen merchandise 25 times from the Weis Market, 305 River Ave., between early April and late June, according to court records at Whiteman's office. The total amount of merchandise taken from the store was $444, police said. Each time Daniels left the store without paying for the merchandise he used his wife's shopper's card, police said. Charged with misdemeanor shoplifting, Daniels has been sent a summons to appear before the judge.
In another case, Faith Ann Murray, 20, of 755 W. Third St., apartment 1, has been charged by city police with misdemeanor shoplifting after she fled Wegmans, 201 William St., with $239 worth of merchandise on Jan. 31, it was alleged in an affidavit. She has waived her preliminary hearing before District Judge Aaron Biichle and is free on $5,000 bail.
In another case, Jusquvida Jackson-Smith, 37, of 325 High St., has been charged with misdemeanor shoplifting after she allegedly stole a lighter from Dollar General, 7498 Route 220, in Woodward Township about 6:30 p.m. on Aug. 2, according to state police court records filed at the office of District Judge Denise Dieter. She too has been sent a summons to appear before the judge. This was Jackson-Smith's second shoplifting charge, police said.
Jersey Shore man charged with alleged theft of a bicycle
Wesley Zane Russitano, 44, of 224 Railroad St.,Jersey Shore, has been charged with theft, receiving stolen property. trespassing and corrupting the morals of a minor after he and a juvenile stole Benjamin Rinehart's $600 bicycle from Rinehart's home on Third Street in Cummings Township on Aug. 18, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. Russitano, who returned the bicycle to police, has waived his preliminary hearing before Dieter and is free on $15,000 bail.
Homeless man jailed on drug charges
Vincent E. Haines, 31, who is homeless, has been jailed on charges of disorderly conduct, possession of a controlled substance (marijuana) and possession of drug paraphernalia after he repeatedly sleeping in the roadway in the 1300 block of Allegheny Street in Jersey Shore on Aug. 21, Lycoming Regional police alleged in an affidavit. Arraigned that day before Dieter, Haines remains an inmate at the county prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Montoursville man faces felony charge
When Alan Hannan caught Cody Lynn Moore in his pickup truck in the 1100 block of Halltown Road in Fairfield Township about 5:40 p.m. on Aug. 17, the 42-year-old Moore asked Hannan for a ride into town, according to a state police affidavit.
When Hannan refused, Moore admitted he was in the truck looking for a set of keys so he could steal the vehicle, police alleged. Moore, of 416 Halltown Road, was arraigned hours later before District Judge William Solomon on a felony charge of attempted theft and criminal trespassing, and jailed in lieu of $20,000 bail. He has since waived his preliminary hearing.
