Man wanted in Clinton County arrested on assault charges in city
When two city police officers arrived at an apartment at the Newberry Estates on Federal Avenue to handle a domestic disturbance about 7:10 p.m. Wednesday, they saw that a front door had been kicked in and that "the doorframe was destroyed," according to an affidavit. A man, soon identified as Dondre Glasper, was heard screaming inside the unit, police said. The officers were met by a distraught woman in the apartment who pleaded with them to get Glasper out of the unit, the affidavit stated.
Glasper, 28, who lived in the same apartment at 2500 Federal Ave., came from the back of the unit and "walked aggressively" towards the woman before the officers stopped him and took him into custody, police said. Glasper was "extremely uncooperative" and resisting, "but once he was placed in custody, he began screaming 'Mommy,'" the affidavit stated.
Police said they are familiar with Glasper and the woman due to "past domestic disturbances" there. The woman told the officers Glasper allegedly kicked in the apartment door after the woman bolted the door while he was "out drinking and using drugs," the court document stated. After forcing his way into the apartment, Glasper allegedly threatened to assault and shoot the woman and two young children, police said, adding the juveniles "were terrified" by the ordeal.
Following his arraignment before District Judge Gary Whiteman on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and criminal mischief, Glasper, whose new address was Milton, was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $15,000 bail.
Before the domestic disturbance, a bench warrant for Glasper's arrest was expected to be filed after he failed to appear Tuesday for a preliminary hearing at the office of District Judge Christian Frey. The hearing concerned a city police misdemeanor charge stemming from when he allegedly stole $9 worth of soda from the Nittany MiniMart, 2300 W. Fourth St., on Sept. 17, according to court papers. This was his second shoplifting arrest, police said. It turns out that Gasper is wanted in Clinton County on another criminal matter, police said, but details of that case were not readily available Thursday night.
City man jailed on felony charge
Hakim Tyrone Kent, 37, of 936 W. Fourth St., has been jailed on a single felony count of terroristic threats following an incident last week in which it is alleged that he made several threats on social media "to numerous people," some of whom became alarmed and notified the Williamsport Area School District, forcing one school to "divert from their normal operations," according to city police affidavit.
In one threat, Kent told a parent "I'll kill anything. I've warned you for four days. I'll kick in your door, shoot up your house and go to the police station and tell them all of this," police said, referring to one video that Kent posted online on Dec. 6, it was alleged in the court document. The next day, Kent posted a photo of a school bus on his social media account, police said.
Following his arraignment on Dec. 8 before District Judge Aaron Biichle, Kent was committed to the Lycoming County Prison in lieu of $100,000 bail.
City man faces felony shoplifting charge
Krystopher Michael Jeffers, 27, of 326 Bridge St., apartment 9, has been charged with felony shoplifting after allegedly stealing $71 worth of merchandise from the Family Dollar, 328 Memorial Ave., about 1:45 p.m. Sunday, city police said. This was his third shoplifting arrest. Following his arraignment before Gardner, Jeffers was released on $15,000 bail.
More charges lodged against state prison inmate
Brenda Denise Carroll, 45, an inmate at the state Correctional Institution at Muncy with a long history of assault, faces a new set of charges of institutional vandalism, resisting arrest and aggravated harassment by a prison following disturbance at the district judge's office at 2134 Route 405 in Muncy Creek Township about 3 p.m. on Aug. 11, according to a state police affidavit.
While being detained in a prisoner-holding area at the judge's office, Carroll was permitted to use a bathroom, but while she was in the room, "she broke the soap dispenser and used a jagged piece of plastic to open existing wounds on her arms, causing herself to bleed in the bathroom," the affidavit stated. "Two constables and a correctional officer from the prison entered the bathroom and ordered Caroll to drop the bloody implement she had in hand and allow herself to be taken into custody, but she refused," the court document stated. One of the constables then quickly disarmed her before she could harm herself anymore or harm someone else, police said.
However, when Carroll was returned to the holding area, she spat in the face of the corrections officer who had accompanied her from the prison to the judge's office, police alleged. Court records did not say if Carroll was at the judge's office for a hearing or for some other judicial matter. She has since been arraigned before District Judge William Solomon and recommitted to the state prison in Clinton Township in lieu of $25,000 bail. She recently was held for court on all charges.
Child custody dispute lands father in jail
Kaamal M. Barnes, 28, of 837 1/2 Poplar St., has been charged with felony trespassing and criminal mischief after kicking in a door at his former girlfriend's home in the 300 block of Howard Street in South Williamsport and then entering the property to pick up his 1-year-old daughter about 10 a.m. on Nov. 25, borough police alleged in court papers. The daughter was not harmed during the custody dispute, and Barnes was taken into custody at the scene without incident. Arraigned before District Judge Gary Whiteman, Barnes was initially jailed, but he has since been released on $15,000 bail and has waived his preliminary hearing.
Mother allegedly drove drunk with child in her car
Megan Valare Coffman, 29, of 1805 Hazel Drive, faces a felony charge endangering the welfare of a child for driving drunk while having her 1-year-old daughter in the vehicle on Route 15, just south of the West Third Street off-ramp, about 2:30 a.m. on Sept. 16, city police said. Coffman's 2018 Chevrolet Equinox was "swaying" in her lane, and when she was stopped, she "showed signs of impairment," according to an affidavit. Her BAC at the time was .18, police said. Arraigned Monday before District Judge Christian Frey on the felony charge as well as two misdemeanors, DUI and recklessly endangering another person, Coffman was released on $15,000 bail.
Arrest made after disturbance that sent two people to hospital
James Nicholas Carr, 21, of 75 Louise, Montgomery, was arrested and jailed on state police charges following an altercation inside his home that sent both a man and a woman to UPMC Williamsport to be treated for their injuries, according to an affidavit. The man and his girlfriend were visiting Carr about 8:54 p.m. on Nov. 24 when a verbal altercation turned physical, police said. "Carr smashed a glass bottle over the man's head, and then with the shattered remains, he stabbed the man in the side of his chest, police alleged in the court document.
At one point, Carr punched the man's girlfriend in the face, leaving "a large bump on her forehead and bruising to her right eye," it was alleged in the affidavit.
At his arraignment hours later before Gardner, Carr, formerly of Montoursville, said he was "defending my house," and that his guests "disrespected me." Charged with aggravated assault, simple assault and harassment, Carr, now living at 41 Ross St., Montgomery, was initially jailed, but has since been released on $50,000 bail.
