Nearly $300,000 in assorted coins, silver bars stolen from van in Loyalsock Township

By Philip A. Holmes 1 min read

A local coin collector suffered a huge loss earlier this month when thieves "gained access" to his 2017 Ford van and stole $286,000 in assorted coins and silver bars and $4,000 in cash while it was parked on Blair Street in Loyalsock Township, according to state police. The collector's identity was not released.

A collection of silver and gold coins -- valued at an estimated $250,000 -- were among the items stolen, police said. Another $23,000 in currency notes and 100-ounce silver bars, valued at $7,000, also were missing, as was a Queen Elizabeth minted coin valued at $900.

Anyone with information on the whereabouts of these stolen items or anyone who may have witnessed the massive theft on Feb. 10 is asked to call state police at 570-368-5700.

Police did tell WNEP News that the dealer had recently been to an out-of-state coin show.
